Palm Sunday

We started our Palm Sunday in the kitchen, learning part of the Easter story while making breakfast together as a family (after I had to put the cow poke to Honey to wake him.)  Cookie enjoyed eating his way through the story and preparations, while little John soaked it all up and proudly told the story back to us and his Sunday school teacher.  Makin’ his momma proud.

Resurrection Rolls
3 tubes crescent dough (to make 24 rolls)
package of large marshmallows
1/2 stick of butter, melted
bowl of cinnamon and sugar mixture

1. Lay all of the ingredients out and preheat oven to 400.  Gather your littles and, if they are anything like mine, have them roll up their sleeves and don their aprons (and apparently baseball caps as well.)

 2. Give each little a large marshmallow.  Explain that it represents Jesus, our sweet savior.  Encourage them not to eat it.  Do you see the one already in Cookie’s mouth?

3. Have them generously coat the marshmallow in the melted butter.  Tell them that this represents the embalming oils.

4. Next roll the marshmallow in the cinnamon and sugar mixture, to represent the spices used to anoint the body.

5. Help them tightly wrap each marshmallow in a triangle of crescent dough.  This step signifies the wrapping of Jesus’ body after death. Repeat the process for the rest of your rolls, racing to finish before all the marshmallows have been eaten.

 6. Put the rolls in the oven, representing the tomb Jesus was placed in.

7. Bake for 10 minutes, until browned and puffed.
8. Remove from oven and serve.  Have the littles break open their roll to find it empty inside!  He is RISEN!!

Good things to know: If you use a cookie sheet, I would definitely use one with sides and spray with cooking spray first.  However, I think next time we will use a greased muffin pan to contain some of the gooey goodness :-)  And thank you sorority big sis H for the lovely cookbook that offered this great recipe!

After our sweet breakfast, we headed to mass and the blessing of the palms.  Always one of my favorite masses of the year, albeit a long one.  As is our tradition, our palms have been woven into crosses and placed over our beds for the days to come.

And now I’m off to enjoy the day before it’s time to make Sunday Supper stir fry.  Cookie is napping and Honey is taking the PCP to a party.  Can hardly believe the peace and quiet that’s about to grace my day…
xoxo
