I’ve shared our basement re-model in bits and pieces over the last eight months and have finally put together a recap of the space that was a year (plus some) in the making!
I only have a few pictures of the “before.” It was much too yucky for me to spend time down there photographing. The space was loaded with navy blue carpeting, dark painted paneling, water stained ceilings, mirrored walls and various other unmentionables.
And, without further ado, behold the “after”. I can still hardly believe Honey pulled it off all by his lonesome!

This makeover is a TOTAL WOW!!!! I LOVE the color choice. Was it chosen around the football jersey? Every element is done with a deliberate and masterful touch, I can tell. There are so many wonderful things to mention… one is the curtains that fall to the floor on the basement windows. Great design eye!
I am so happy to find you! I am a new follower!

Oh my word…what a stunning transformation! That looks like something out of a glossy shelter magazine.
I could live in that area all day. I love it!
Best wishes,
Natasha.
Wow – looks great. Love your fabric choices. Did you make everything? We are in the midst of doing our basement right now and trying to decide on the color of the flooring. I Like your light wood tones. Linda
Um, I want to move in!! It's so beautiful and cheery!!
Thank you everyone for the sweet, sweet comments! Y'all are making my day!
Yvonne – we are Georgia Tech fans so the color scheme was definitely picked to go with the white and gold school colors. The jersey is one of Honey's fave GT players.
Nina – yes, my husband did all of the "construction" work. I made the curtains and my mom and I both worked on the pillows. I had the banquette seat cushion made.
what a transformation. I absolutely love it!
I found you on Tip Junkie, and I just LOVE what you did. It's just AMAZING!

You guys did an incredible job. It is so loving and beautiful. You must be very proud. I will be here everyday!
Living in Charleston basements are so rare. My husband grew up in the north and always says he wants a basement in his next house. He has dreams of making it look like a man cave. I have dreams of making it look exactally like yours. Fantastic job!
I am recently adding these same colors and a picture wall in my hall! You have so inspired me to keep going! Its beautiful. Im your newest follower!

I love everything you've done to your home. I could live in your basement and be very happy:) The bench sofa is just beautiful — you're so talented.
My home looks like your before photos. My woodwork is all the same dark brown wood with large windows. My husband is very attached to the woodwork.
Do you think you could have left the wood dark and managed to bring the home up-to-date? Or do you think that the dark wood moldings would make the house look dated even though you changed a lot of other things? If you considered the option of keeping the dark moldings, what would you have done to lighten the overall look of your home and make it look current?
I love everything you've done to your home. I think I could live in your basement and be very happy :) The bench seating area is gorgeous with all that coordinating fabric — you are so talented.
My home looks like your before photos. I have a lot of dark wood moldings and windows, and lots of large windows. My husband is very attached to the wood.
Do you think that you could have left the dark wood and still had the house look up-to-date? Or do you think that if you left the wood, the house would look old no matter what else you changed?
If you considered keeping the dark wood, what would you have done to the rest of the home to lighten everything up and make it look current?
Doglover, Thank you for your kind comment! In this house, the dark wood trim really needed to be painted. The ceilings are low and there isn't tons of natural light because our lot is somewhat wooded. It was necessary to make it bright and make it feel updated. And I prefer white trim in general. But all of that is just my opinion :-)
If I kept dark wood trim, I'd definitely go with light wood floor and light paint colors on the wall. I'd probably do accents of dark brown and black to tie it together but pretty much everything else light and airy!

My favorite parts are the gray cabinets and the curtain fabric. Very nice job on the whole project! You transformed something unappealing into a wonderfully liveable space!
VERY nice space! Love the colors!
Your basement turned out gorgeous! Love the gray and yellow accents.
Looks amazing! What is your ceiling?
Saw this over at Exceptionally Eclectic. I'm in love with your basement! Love the color scheme, and how light & bright the space is. Your family must love hanging out in the basement now. Thanks for sharing.

Wow, where to even begin with this. It is so fantastic. I love all the pictures you have they add that personal touch to the room. All the colors are great. This is a space which I can see will create many memories in it.
every detail is amazing…..you had a great vision to be able to pull this off!!!
Hello! Wow, what an amazing makeover. I wanted to ask about the ceiling tiles. I was trying to see where you got them. They are different than the usual dropped ceiling material right?
Thanks for the info!
Hi! The basement looks fantastic!!! Congratulations! Can I ask where did you buy the yellow table lamps?
Thanks! :)

Oh my goodness! This is gorgeous! Love the color scheme! You may have just answered a problem I have with that picture of your sink skirt! Great job!
Beautiful! I found you through House of Hepworths and the One Project Closer post– congrats! My empty banquette NEEDS the cushions you have on your bench seating. I was hoping you'd have a post about how they were made but see that a local seamstress made them. They are beautiful. I've pinned the picture in hopes that I get inspired to make them myself. Thanks for sharing!
Oh how I envy you this space!! So many perfect details … that silver/white chevron behind the bar is just awesome!!
I am in LOVE with this space! I absolutely love the rugs. I have been searching for some and was wondering where you got yours?
I love this remodel. I have seen it before on the blog. But, I just happened to look again because your post today. From what I could tell, you must have been a Zeta, like me. If I'm not mistaken, I seen a ZTA coat of arms on the collage of pictures at the stairs. :)
