Birthday Jar {Free Printable}

John and his little friends are starting to turn ten.  *gasp*

This got me thinking about how I had a “signature” gift of sorts at that age.  I gave mylar birthday balloons in big wrapped boxes from a gift shop in Savannah.  I think they were $5.  I’d tuck in another $5 or so and always awaited the opening of the gifts with bated breath.  There was something so festive about the balloon floating up out of the box.  For my bestest besties I would go for the balloons that could be personalized with letter stickers to spell out her name.  Even back then I was crazy for a monogram!  I tell this long story simply to explain why I sat down with John to see what sort of “signature” gift he might want to give his buddies over the course of the next year.  Mainly because that’s fun, but also because it seems so convenient.  Here’s what we came up with…

We filled a pint sized purple ball jar (because we had them and they are festive) with gumballs.  It took two bags from Dollar Tree.  Then we tucked some cash inside, tied it up with a bow and topped it off with a tag (it has a camo background that is hard to see here).  You can find my free printable tags here.

John says he would be thrilled with this gift.  I guess I would too!

And, while we were at it, we fashioned one up for Sister’s Mister’s big 4-0.  Word on the street is that he’s wanting a beach cruiser bike.  So, we tucked some cash inside to go towards the fund.

Have I mentioned how I can’t believe these kids are turning TEN?  And that us parents are turning FORTY?  How in the world did that happen??!!

  1. Such a smart idea! I had signature gifts when the boys were little, but we’ve gotten away from it for some reason.

    Doesn’t it all happen in a hurry?! xo

  2. I think I’ll add your idea to the repertoire. We get a Hershey’s bar and tuck singles in it that match the child’s age, plus one to grow on. Kids usually love it.
