A Valentine’s Eve Table for Two

Honey and I enjoyed a wonderful Valentine’s Eve dinner at home tonight.  We very rarely go out on this occasion, preferring to cook a delicious meal together at home.   We usher the littles upstairs with movies and popcorn and set a table for two in the den.  I usually bring the card table out in front of the fireplace, but this year we made use of the lovely little den banquette.  It was perfection!

Honey carried the chocolate covered strawberries and roses home from work yesterday.  I almost hated to do it, but I split them up into four different smaller bouquets all around the house.

The pink table linens were wedding gifts.

I love at home date nights with candlelight, music and a roaring fire.  So much better (and cheaper) than an overcrowded restaurant!

We made our very favorite meal.  It’s pretty easy to pull together too!  It is Ina Garten’s mustard marinated flank steak (on the big green egg), truffled mashed potatoes and brussels sprouts.  I’ve shared these recipes and proclaimed my love of this meal many times.  You can find them HERE.

John “babysat” Elsa upstairs while we cooked, but about two seconds after we sat down to eat she was back :-)

Honey did the dishes while I finished my rose by the fire.  Then he indulged me in watching Titanic.

He’s a good man, that Honey.

We have fantastic plans to celebrate Valentine’s Day tomorrow as a family.  I’m SO excited!!

  1. We prefer to celebrate the very same way, and your banquette is the perfect spot!

We are having a BIG family celebration today, including grandparents, a couple of friends & the like. Tournaments kick off next weekend so we wanted to get together with everyone!

Hope you enjoy your day! xo

  2. What darling use of your banquette! No doubt, you are already thinking of other occasions to dine there. :-) Valentine’s dining at home is fabulous and we will be having our traditional lobster dinner this evening. It’s always such a fun and sweet table to set, with wedding champagne crystal and a chance to use pink! Thanks for sharing yours. It was beautiful! Enjoy your day!

  3. What a lovely evening. You have everything fixed so pretty. I love Valentine’s Day. Next to Christmas it is one of my favorite holidays.
