The Road Leads Back to You {40×41}

Georgia, Georgia
The whole day through
Just an old sweet song
Keeps Georgia on my mind
jw4a1215
I said Georgia
Georgia
A song of you
Comes as sweet and clear
As moonlight through the pines
preview
Other arms reach out to me
Other eyes smile tenderly
jw4a1262
Still in peaceful dreams I see
The road leads back to you
jw4a1186
I said Georgia
Ooh Georgia, no peace I find
Just an old sweet song
Keeps Georgia on my mind
jw4a1206
Other arms reach out to me
Other eyes smile tenderly
jw4a1247
Still in peaceful dreams I see
The road leads back to you
jw4a1235
Whoa, Georgia
Georgia
No peace, no peace I find
Just this old, sweet song
Keeps Georgia on my mind
jw4a1193
I said just an old sweet song
Keeps Georgia on my mind

A favorite song for my favorite pictures of my favorite people in my favorite place.

Over two years ago I get a series of calls and texts from Sister.  Where are you?  Hello?  Call me back.  Okay never mind.  I’ve just booked you.  You won’t regret it.  When I finally get back to my phone I connect with her to find out she booked us a hard-to-get mommy and me portrait session with the incredibly talented Jessica of Dalton Lane Portrait Co.  Sister knows a thing or thousand about photographers and styling photo shoots so I went with it.  Dalton Lane was taking their act to the road and would be in Savannah … 13 months later.  HA!  So last October Sister and I packed up the littles and headed home to Savannah for a portrait session in one of our most beloved Savannah locations – Wormsloe Plantation.  It is a magical, quintessentially Southern and hauntingly beautiful historic site with its dirt roads, majestic oaks and towering pines.  As we were walking down one dirt road, we came upon a boat in the thick of the trees.  Jessica knew “this is it”, while I wasn’t so sure.  Well, when these landed in my inbox I was completely taken aback.  They were just stunning.  I will treasure these forever <3

You can see more of Jessica’s work at Dalton Lane and stay up to date on her schedule, road shows and offers on her Facebook page.  She is wildly talented, has incredible vision and does stunning work.  I wouldn’t hesitate to do it all again.  In the spirit of full disclosure, she is highly sought after (we booked 13 months out) and has a very long turn around time on her portraits (took 5 months to see proofs and another few to get my canvas).  They are worth the wait!  However, she has recently scaled back turn around times so PLEASE don’t let the timing be the thing that holds you back from using her!

NOTE: If you book with Dalton Lane, mention this blog post and she will take $50 off!!

When I first marked #34 on my 40×41 bucket list complete (Take amazing family portraits that will last a lifetime), I noted that there was a part 2 to that item.  This is that part 2 – it only took me a year to get it out here.  Ha!

  1. The mommy and me portraits are indeed stunning! I know you are very proud of the much-anticipated results. Of course, it helps to have such beautiful children as well as a beautiful mommy as the subjects. Thank you for sharing these family portraits.

  2. Oh my gosh, these are just stunning. The boat pictures took my breath away! What a wonderful treasure in these portraits, Amanda. And you know, I have a soft spot for Savannah too, so when I saw the first photo I just about died. Simply beautiful.

  3. The portrait of you and both boys is stunning and the background is gorgeous! Goodness, I thought we had really done something when my mother had family portraits taken of us at Olan Mills studios back in the late 70’s! ha

  4. I love them! Would love to have them done of my son before he gets an older or “taller” then me! He just turned 10.

  5. HI Amanda,
I was wondering if you had a phone number for Dalton Lane Portrait. The number on their site is not correct and the number on Facebook just has a fast busy signal. I’ve emailed them several days ago but no answer so I’m not even sure if the email is correct. Any help you can give me is appreciated. Thank you! Beth
