Magical Monday {Highway in the Sky Dine Around}

While nothing quite beats seeing the awe and wonder of Disney magic on our kids’ faces, there is also something incredibly special about making time for a date night while in Disney.  We always look for new experiences or offerings to try and were absolutely thrilled when the Highway in the Sky Dine Around was announced as a limited time offering.  We immediately booked it as a late 15th anniversary celebration!

With the kids happily checked in to the Sandcastle Club at Disney’s Beach Club Resort, we headed off to start our evening at the Contemporary Resort!

Our evening started at The Wave where we enjoyed the Bay Lake Sunset cocktail and split pea soup.  Both were delicious, but the soup was one of the best I’ve ever had… of any type of soup.  The chef came out and talked a bit about the restaurant and the two items we sampled.  Things were off to a fabulous start!

Our group was led to a reserved monorail car bound for our next destination, the Polynesian.  We enjoyed traditional music on the ukulele while sipping on MaiTais.  The appetizers here were Pickled Beets, Spicy Tuna Rolls and Pork Belly.  We ended up with the cutest couple here and spent the rest of the evening in their company.

We were again led to a reserved car on the monorail bound for the Grand Floridian.  We were greeted by the chef to learn a little more about this stop on the progressive dinner.

The tea room was reserved for our party and we enjoyed bubbly, charcuterie and cheese.  Everything was scrumptious.

Our main course was served in Citricos.  Our hosts did a fantastic job of noting which guests were starting to hang with which guests and sat everyone appropriately.  We were with the couple I mentioned back at Polynesian, as well as two other couples.  We were offered white or red wine and the entree was broiled fish and short ribs.  The fish was okay but the short ribs were fantastic!

We boarded the monorail one final time to head back to the Contemporary for dessert, coffee and fireworks viewing.  We were led to a private deck with a spectacular view of the Magic Kingdom.  Dessert was Blood Orange Cake and Flourless Chocolate cake.  A barista offered coffee with Baileys and Kahlua.

There were seats set up for our party and they played the Happily Ever After music to go along with the show.  All of that, coupled with the monorail gliding over head, made for an incredible end to what was one of my favorite nights I’ve ever had in Disney.

So many thanks go out to the kind, funny, professional and attentive hosts that evening.  “The twins” were so fantastic and we had the pleasure of seeing them the very next night at another event!

We left with a box of truffles, a thank you note and a commemorative menu from our evening.

I really cannot say enough good things about this event.  I wouldn’t hesitate to book it again for a special occasion.  This was Disney service and magic at its absolute best!!
