Up and Vanished Obsessed

Sister introduced me to a new podcast and it is safe to say that I’m obsessed.  Up and Vanished is an investigative podcast exploring the unsolved disappearance of Georgia beauty queen and high school teacher, Tara Grinstead.  Host Payne Lindsey examines this cold case, taking a new look at evidence, re-interviewing people of interest, and uncovering new leads.  I listened to the podcast for my entire drive from Savannah to Atlanta last week, and then completely caught up on the drive to Disney this week.  Along with so many others, I find myself wondering daily…  What DID happen to Tara Grinstead?

I first shared my love of podcasts a couple of years ago, but it’s worth re-answering the most common questions I get asked about them…  What are podcasts? How do I listen to them? And WHEN do you do this?

A podcast is a digital audio file that can be downloaded from the internet.  Think of it as a prerecorded radio segment about a specific topic.  Or a TV show without the video.

You can listen to podcasts in a variety of ways.  My iPhone came with a podcast icon (see the purple thing on the next to last row).  I clicked on that and was able to search for and subscribe to shows.  I have deleted some that didn’t end up interesting and add others as I came across them.  They are free.  Mother listens to them on her Kindle direct from the website above.

WHEN do I do this?  Well, there are two key times that I listen to podcasts.  The first is on my morning walk.  I usually take a good 45 minute walk each morning and rather than music, I listen to podcasts.  The other is in my car.  I don’t have bluetooth, so I just crank the speaker up and listen that way.  On family road trips I use headphones.

My other FAVORITE podcast is Truth and Justice.  I get giddy every time a new episode is released.

  1. Two more to add to my list! I’ve been catching up on Lore lately, so I’ll be glad to have some new ones to check out. Thanks for sharing! xo

    1. I know that now but had no clue when I started listening. I’m still not done with the podcast so I haven’t looked up any new recent developments. I’m only through about April of this year.

  2. Oh my gosh, I never comment, but I am also obsessed with those two podcasts! Please write a blog post with your thoughts on both the Tara Grinstead case and Keow Gove!

  3. I just downloaded both of those and can’t wait to listen. I love shows like Forensic Files and Unsolved Mysteries. It’s amazing how they solve crimes with very little evidence. Thanks for the post! As always, I look forward to getting each and every one. Happy weekend!

  4. I have been listening to up and vanished and love it too! I have a friend who’s husband is from the same town as Tara! Crazy small world. I would love to hear and other new podcasts you add to your line up. I’m always looking for a new interesting one!

  5. Up and Vanished is great! Check out S-Town and In the Dark, they are some of my newest favorites. I love a good podcast!

    1. Yes, I did S Town a few months ago. I really liked it but then thought the end was so sad. Worth listening to though!

  6. I started listening to Up and Vanished podcast to entertain myself during a painting project. I love it!

  7. If you enjoy true crime, True Crime Garage is a great podcast. The hosts play off each other well and aren’t annoying. ? I also enjoy Thinking Sideways, Sword & Scale, and Astonishing Legends.
I’ll put your suggestions on my list! I love Truth and Justice! ❤️

  8. if you don’t mind a liberal amount of swearing, My Favorite Murder is a VERY interesting (and surprisingly funny) podcast. The hosts take turns telling each other the story of a crime or murder. I would recommend listening to the first few before the newest ones, as they have developed some inside jokes that might be off-putting if you don’t have the backstory.

    1. I don’t mind that and I will add this to my list. My neighbor listens to it so it sounds like it’s time I tried!

  9. I love all of the podcasts you’ve mentioned, and I’ve recently started Unconcluded. You might also like Someone Knows Something (both seasons).
