Lost Too Soon

Yesterday we laid to rest Honey’s Uncle R, lost too soon at the young age of sixty-three.  A soft-spoken, kind and gentle man, it hurts my heart that I didn’t know more of him.  While Uncle R had neither a wife nor children to say a last farewell, he certainly would have smiled at the graveside shenanigans of his great nephews, been proud of the men his own nephews have grown to be, and been touched by the care and thought his little brother put into preparing for this day.   It seemed that things were at long last put in their place as Uncle R came to rest along side his dear mother that tragically lost her life when he was really just a boy, a father that worked hard and lived vivaciously, and a big brother (Honey’s daddy) that was a gentleman and remarkable provider in so very many ways.

After the service, we made an emotional visit to the Angel Garden, where we remember our own son born and lost too soon with a brick in his name.  And his friends in Heaven, the twin boys of some of our dearest friends.

As we left the old rolling hills of Arlington Memorial Park under a clear blue Southern sky I was reminded, once again, that this life is fragile and not a minute of a day should be taken for granted.

Jay Walkers

While pregnancy for many (outside of my family at least) is nine months worth of excited anticipation, purposeful planning and a hint of nervousness, for my sweet little sister pregnancy was full of issues the doctors couldn’t explain, immense worry and cautious preparation.  To say things were rough is pretty generous.  She couldn’t gain weight… Read More

Demotion

Cookie, formerly knows as “the best baby in the world”, has recently (and temporarily) been demoted to just “baby.”  That little stinker has not only been into everything, but has developed quite a dramatic, strong willed personality to boot.  Here is my supporting documentation for the baby’s demotion: Climbing out of crib I’m not sure… Read More
