A New Old Chair

If you love a good before and after chair project as much as I do then you’re in for a treat today!  Remember this sad little chair that shared in my big boy room kick off?

Weeeeeelllllll, a couple of yards of fabric and a trip to my favorite upholsterer later and she’s sporting a pretty swell new do.  Carved legs, vellvet upholstery and double welting…oh my!

I purchased the fabric – Como Gris – from Calico Corners at least a year ago.  It was mis-marked in the store and after a desperate little hissy fit they went on and sold it to me for a SONG at $15 a yard (supposed to be $45/yard).

There’s really nothing like a gorgeous antique chair to set my heart a aflutter.  They just don’t make ‘em like they used to.

  1. Gorgeous! Would love to know who you used? I have an old chair from my husband's grandparents house that I would like to have recovered.

  2. Kelly, I have two friends with interior designer mothers in different parts of Atlanta and both use Crown Upholstery in Marietta. Chang is the owner and is really super to work with. :-)

  3. lookin' good girlfriend! i'm hoping to get my headboard done (or at least cut out) this weekend. then i'll be down to the wire on finishing up in there…can't wait to see what you've done!

  4. You really should have included one of the pics of Cookie in the chair. Then people wouldn't think you took your chair into the woods just to do a photo shoot of it. And, the pics of Cookie were gorgeous!!!

  5. Oh I love this chair! I've never been brave enough to redo the fabric though. Next time, I will though! Would love for you to link up to My Monday Muse at Carter's Cottage :)

  6. Oh, wow, I just LOVE your decorating style!!! Just discovered your blog via Rhoda's and now I'm gonna be late for work! LOL

I'm a southern gal myself and will be visiting Savannah in a couple of weeks with my honey. We're staying at Dresser Palmer House. Do you live near Savannah?

  7. Stunning! love the after!!!
I have a chair in our home that looks almost the same as your chair! It was my grandparents and has had that blue fabric on it. I have always wanted to change the fabric. But after seeing yours, I want to keep it the way it is.
