Allrighty, listen up y’all… if you have a child of any gender between the ages of, oh, say four and fourteen, run (don’t walk) to your nearest toy store and procure the Rainbow Loom. (I found mine at Learning Express.)
This fifteen dollar investment has been the source of endless, and I mean endless, hours of entertainment around these parts for the last month. The PCP used his report card money (yes, we do pay for performance) to purchase the loom that allows you to make an endless array of bracelets (as well as necklaces, lassos and other oddities if you are one of my children) out of rubber bands a little too reminiscent of my scary (looking) 1980’s stint with orthodontia.
The fun really doesn’t end with the littles. Long after they are in bed at night you can find me on you tube studying the latest techniques, as taught by twelve year old girls, while I watch things on my DVR like Vampire Diaries and Pretty Little Liars with my hair in a sock bun. Many a night I’ve had to tell myself, “Amanda, step AWAY from the Rainbow Loom and GO.TO.BED.”

In a total coincidence, I went to Learning Express in Toco Hills today to pick up a couple of birthday gift. A woman came in and asked whether the Rainbow Looms had arrived. The clerk said that they were sold out, as is the Buckhead store and the TH store had a waiting list of 20 people for a probable shipment of 40 looms! This is THE hot toy of the moment. You have your finger on the kiddo pulse!

And I have tried the sock bun thing with no success. Might you consider doing a tutorial on how you do it? The videos on youtube have been no help for some reason. Don't know what I'm doing wrong?!?!
The rainbow loom is one of the hot toys. I take my 3 year old to the learning express near our house nearly every tuesday for an awesome storytime that they hold and that toy is front and center. A day or two ago they sent out an email blast saying that they had just received 20 looms in with band bags and glow in the dark bands.
