Snow Day

We’re on our second “snow day” of the week down South.  And, sadly, this is the extent of the snow…

January 2014 029

I’ll go ahead and state the obvious – there aren’t many snowmen being built with those ten flurries.  Rather, we’ve spent the last two days bundled up inside watching cartoons, playing games, trading football cards, sipping hot chocolate, building legos, and fighting (just keepin’ it real folks.)

I figure this is as good a time as any to put out my annual plug for my two favorite ways to warm up on chilly days – Harney and Sons tea and the good old Cherry Pit Pac.

I am able to find two of my three favorite Harney & Sons teas at Fresh Market – Paris and Hot Cinnamon Spice.  I also adore the Wedding tea, but it has to be ordered online.  I’m trying to cut back on the sugar in my tea *gasp* but these are good enough to where I don’t miss it too too much.  Now, while I realize the cherry pit pac isn’t the most gorgeous thing in the world (hello, crazy cat lady), it is so so so wonderful to heat up in the microwave and drape over your shoulders while watching tv.  I also love to heat it and put it under the covers my bed while I brush my teeth.  Makes it so warm and cozy to climb into.

With that, I’m off to entertain the monkeys.  They are climbing the walls… literally.
xoxo

PS. Check out the great wrapping station on Operation: Organization at 11 Magnolia Lane today!

  1. Yes, our Georgia weather certainly leaves sonething to be desired in th "snow" department… but mercy, it IS cold!

    Enjoy your snow day! xo

  2. I can't believe it's a snow day down there for that! We have negative temps up here so everyone is off today. Enjoy the snuggling!

  3. I also LOVE the Paris tea. I keep saving the tea tins because they are so adorable- but can't figure anything to do with them. Have you ever done anything with the empty tea tins? Stay warm!! BRRR.

  4. I started drinking Harney and Sons at your recommendation and love it! Hot cinnamon spice tastes just like a liquid "red hot" when I add a scant teaspoon of honey to the cup! I'm 16 weeks pregnant with my third, and coffee just tastes awful. Im so very thankful to have something else warn to drink! Santa brought me the decaf, and I've been sipping ever since.
    Stay warm!

PS, The last snow day we had around here, I backed the cars out of the garage, bundled up the kids, and let them scooter and skate in the garage!

  5. It's FREEZING here, and we're on snow day #2 also (which is a challenge after Christmas break!). We dodged the snow bullet, thank goodness, but the cold definitely takes your breath away! Stay warm!

  6. Almost all of our snow is done and what is left has turned to ice. So cold!!! Below freezing here today but will be in the mid 40's by the end of the week, thank goodness!!!

    Stay warm friend!

  7. In Denver we woke up to minus 7. Six inches of snow and ice in parts. Didn't even have a delay yesterday! I was shocked. We only walk a block to school (that's why I insisted we move. I refuse to drive in snow.) but still I was expecting a delay of some sort. I actually told everyone I was ready for spring. I've been cut out of social circles I think. These true natives of Colorado really like their snow. I'm still a displaced Southerner!

  8. Lisa – I have saved a few too. I always think they would be cute little vases scattered on a table for some sort of event. But I've never actually done it :-)

  9. I am in Upstate SC and we were delayed 2 hours only to get to school and have no water! No potties!!! They are busing all of our students two buses at a time to our high school stadium to use the restroom. It's been an interesting morning and the most interesting potty break I've had in a long while!!

  10. Been looking for those teas. Will have to make a trip to Fresh Market. And, we have had a bear for years that we can microwave…the girls use it for all kinds of things-warming the bed, tummy aches, other aches and pains. We bought our youngest a new one last year at Whole Foods and she uses it all the time at school when it's cold.

  11. I love the Paris tea too, thanks to your suggestion. :) Where, on the web, do you order the Wedding tea? I checked their website and also Amazon but can't find it. Thank you!

  12. Good question… Daddy-O usually places a large order so that we can get free shipping and then divides it up between Mother, Sister and me. I'll ask him! I thought it was from the Harney and Sons site though.

  13. I feel like this is what it must feel like to live in Alaska. Part of the lake we live on is frozen. I'm guessing school is out because of school buses not working well in the cold.

  14. Thanks, Dixie! I just love that Daddy-O! ;). Jane, San Diego (But currently stuck in Indy, where it was colder here this morning than the South Pole!)

  15. I love the hot cinnamon spice tea too. My daughter discovered while living in Alaska. I have not tried it with added sugar, but it does sound good. It is -3 degrees here in Michigan, and staying in is the plan. We have shoveled the driveway and sidewalk more than 3 times. I would love to share our snow with you. The pile at the end of the cul de sac is over 10 feet tall. The kids and dogs are having a ball climbing all over it.

  16. Only in the South can we have snow days without snow, lol! Target (in Charlotte, anyway) has started carrying Harney & Sons-the one I was in had Cinnamon, Peppermint, and Green w/Thai flavors.

  17. The Tea sounds fabulous! I need to get one of those heating pads, they are so cute!
We have been cold here in KS,..but slowly warming up. =)

    Stay warm!

  18. I finally picked up some Paris tea. It is divine! Thanks for recommending it! Tomorrow will be our fourth snow day. Over the weekend we got a foot of snow and the temp was colder than the South Pole! Hope y'all are keeping warm!
