Musings

It’s been far too long since I’ve captured my musings on the blog.  So hold on to your hats… this one is going to be a doozie.  I’ll kick things off with this sweet thing.  Can you believe that pout.  Sister sent this to me in a text that read “This pic sums up CeeCee Belle today”.

I’ve had a few requests for a picture of someone wearing one of the Dixie Delights oyster necklaces. This is the only one I have so far.  It’s kind of a long story, but to try to sum it up: Mother gave me this necklace and a few hours later John asked her if he could buy one from her to give me for my birthday.  I didn’t want to break his little heart by sporting mine between now and then so Mother quietly took it back from me and wrapped it up for him to give to me on my birthday.  So, I don’t actually have one myself yet, you see :-)  The oyster is centered on the necklace, I just have this one cocked off to the side.

The baby brought this home from Sunday school last week.  If by “different hair” he means “fabulous hair” then I wholeheartedly agree.  That kid has some fine hair.  And lips too, while we’re showering him with compliments.

My little chess champion beat me at chess last week in two moves.  TWO.  How is that even possible?

I love the kind of kids that ask for a bowl full of cut sweet peppers for their after school snack.  Now, don’t ya’ll be feeling sorry for the littles.  They were served with a side of chocolate chip cookies.

On the topic of eats, I love sharing lunch with the baby five days a week.  I can’t remember the last time we ate a chicken nugget :-)

I love love love this new print, Ritual, by The Old Try.  I already have five of their prints hanging about and am bound and determined to find a spot for at least one more.

I settled on this fabric and grosgrain ribbon trim for two lumbar pillows for the new sofa.  Speaking of the new sofa, the baby somehow managed to bleed ALL OVER one of the seat cushions last weekend.  I could have died.  I purchased the no questions asked, repair any sort of stain plan so I’ll probably be spending my week on hold trying to figure out how to take care of it.  Doesn’t it just figure that nary a drop of blood landed on the old sofa in twelve years.  In less than 30 days, the new one was destroyed.

The PCP has been playing on a 10U tennis team this winter.  It’s been frigid and he’s the youngest on the team by  more than a year, but he loves it.  So happy to see him thriving in what I call a “forever sport.”

I will never forget always always always licking the bowl after Mother cooked.  Sister and I would each get a spoon or beater or what-have-ya and pretty much lick it clean.

I mentioned my love for FLIP Burger Boutique years ago, and it still holds a special place in my heart.  I mean, what’s not to love about a nutella and burnt marshmallow milkshake?!?!

This is a classic snippet from my day…  John: “Mommy, you do so so so much that I have an idea to help you.  Just start packing this for my snack at school.  It’s made of fruit and fills me up soooo much.  I mean, you KNOW how hungry I get.”  Nice try.  Very nice.

I hope y’all are loving your preppy monogrammed notebooks!!  They have been so much fun to make.  I use mine every.single.day!!

I’m going to be moving the playroom to the basement and turning that space into a family study.  It’s our big project of 2014.  I have already worked with a closet designer and met with a carpenter.  Can’t wait to get moving on it!!  Before I do, I will take pictures of the room as it is today for posterity sake, if nothing else.  I realized I’ve never shared it, but trust me, you’ve only been missing a bunch of baskets exploding at the seams with toys.

Last but not least, don’t forget to enter my oyster shell necklace giveaway!!

It’s being rumored that we have another snow storm moving in.  I will be barricading the doors and not letting anyone out after the last episode.

  1. I've said before that Musings posts are my fave, & that still holds true. And I have every finger crossed to win that giveaway! Hope your week is off to a great start! xo

  2. I always enjoy the musings posts. Looks like more "snow days" in the future for ATL. Can you please add my current give away "Party Cup Express" to your blog as I get so much traffic from my girl, Dixie!??? Thanks. xo

  3. Fabric source please…that fabric is to die for and may just be what I've been looking for myself to go with a velvet I have picked out for my sofa recover… :)

    1. Eek – I left that out! I got it at Lewis and Sheron. It's called Regency and the color is Jade. Be warned, it's $$. I only needed one yard, thank heavens. $45/yd I think. Don't tell honey :-)

  4. I love your Musings posts and that baby is sumthin' else! lol Try the Carbona stuff to get the blood off your sofa. It works like magic. xo Diana

  5. I saw some great greek key and another print trim at Fabric and Fringe Warehouse a few weeks ago that would look amazing with that animal print fabric!! Seam foam green or more of a blue? They had both!

  6. Meant to tell you. Bed Bath and Beyond carries a product called Incredible. It is in a white bottle, red and blue writing. It gets EVERYTHING out!! It's about $4.99 a bottle. Works like a charm, even on red wine and blood (have used it on sport uniforms before).

  7. Fun post! What beautiful children you and your sister have! I love my book! I have chalkboard art ideas in it and I use mine almost everyday too. I am almost as big a Lilly fan as you are.

  8. Hydrogen peroxide lifts blood. It's an old nursing trick. Works every time. It is always best to apply the hydrogen peroxide essentially immediately but I have been successful using it on dried blood as well. Good luck!

  9. I so enjoy these posts! The children are adorable, even CeeCee's pout. :)
That fabric is to die for and the ribbon is perfect.

    Stay safe and warm!

  10. My first comment obviously didn't go through, so I am sure the second seemed weird! I will be sure to send you a pic next time I wear my oyster shell necklace. Right now I am wearing my "prepared for snowmagedon 2" garb! LOL I was so close to buying a few yards of the same fabric a couple weeks ago (just because I loved it, had no idea what I was going to use it for)…however, my honey WAS with me! He took one look at the price tag and rolled his eyes! It will sneak its way in someday!
Here's hoping we don't get the ice they think we will. Baby girl is trying to decide whether to stick it out in her apartment or come home (we at least have a fireplace and gas cooktop). She at least has a week long vacay! Cobb already had Thursday to Tuesday off!

  11. Could the baby mean HE doesn't have black hair like the doll? Pillow fabric looks great and perfecto . Good luck having the boys home for 2 days!! Lastly, hydrogen peroxide does melt blood. Happy happy joy joy snow jam dos !

  12. Can't wait to see how you decorate the family study! You picked a great fabric…love it! That little CeeCee is adorable as are your two little ones. :) Cuteness overload! Love the musings posts!

  13. Amanda, hydrogen peroxide will lift the blood out in seconds and won't harm your fabric unless it's 100% silk! Just pour a smidgen in the cap, apply to stain, and it lifts in 10 seconds. Hope the baby is okay!

  14. hi – i love the fabric and ribbon! where is the ribbon from? i looked all over for that color and couldn't find it anywhere.

  15. Someone else commented on the blood stain and I'll confirm that peroxide will take it out. Easy peasy
