Moving Right Along

Things in the playroom to family office conversion are moving right along.  I’ve sorted through all the toys, moved most down to the basement, donated the rest and then sold the bulk of the playroom furniture.  Here’s how it looks today.

Honey cleaned out the attic last weekend and brought the daybed down.  I LOVE it and hope it will work in the space.  If not this, I have two chairs up there still that will have to do.

I bought two ghost chairs on ebay for the littles to use at the desks.  Both of them arrived with imperfections so the seller refunded all of my  money and let me keep them.  I’m going to put seat cushions on them to cover up the issues.

Honey installed the elfa closet system while we were in Savannah on leg one of our spring break trip.  I cannot wait to empty out the guest room closet and part of my closet and make this a desk / office space for ME!!!

The closet has one of these bare bulb pull string things.  Does anyone know if there is anything that can be done to make it look better?  There’s  not a light switch so I guess the string must stay.

I also want to hang the littles homecoming gowns in here.  The colors are perfect and they have been hiding in my closet ever since I took them out of the living room.

To Do List:

  • Remove wall shelves
  • Patch holes
  • Paint – need paint color first!
  • Make window treatments (a daunting task)
  • Organize closet
  • Decide on daybed vs 2 chairs – if daybed will need bedding and pillows… oh, and we will need new hardware since it was all lost in the move
  • Get coffee table out of attic??
  • Paint mirror from attic
  • Find chest for between windows
  • Find rug
  • Take down fan and figure out new lighting
  • Find the missing closet door (how on earth did we lose that?)
  • Closet light
  • Seat cushions for chairs

Fingers crossed that Mother will be able to help me with the curtains this weekend.  Although I’m not sure how that will pan out with everything else we have on our plates.
xoxo

  1. I wish I had half your energy, Amanda! I have been thinking about a similar transformation for our playroom, but I can't figure out what to do with all the toys as we don't have a basement and I sure don't want any more stuff in the bedrooms. I'd love it if you could share how you've dealt with all that stuff!

  2. Amanda, if you go to Pinterest and put "pull chain light" in the search bar you will get lots of ideas. From replacing it with a fan light kit (chandy style) to modern fixture with edison style bulbs and everything in between.
I can't wait to see how you pull it all together. It's gonna be awesome!

  3. Our house had pull chain lights in all the closets and they were wonky, so I had a friend come over and put in switches. It isn't hard and a good electrician can do it in less than an hour.

  4. That closet is a dream! Hope the day bed works, the hardware should be easy to replace. I'm looking forward to seeing the transformation. Looks like a great space!

  5. I just tied pretty ribbons onto my chain light pulls. I tied them right at the top and then cut the ugly strings. I have them in every closet in my house!

  6. I tied pretty ribbon onto my chain light pull. I tied them at the very top and then cut the ugly string. I have them in every closet in my house and I love seeing the pretty ribbon!

  7. Amanda….how exciting! I can't wait to see how this room looks when you have worked your magic. I would love to hear more about the Elfa closet system….I have been thinking of one for our guest room to hold both craft/sewing notions and have some hanging space for guests…. Is that beautiful rug a ballards? and where did you find those beautiful showdown boxes for your littles coming home clothes????
