A Few Additions

I’m continuing to plug away at the family office, making a few additions to the space over the last couple of weeks.  If you will recall, this is the look we’re going for here.

FamilyOffice3

Well, after much hemming and hawing, I finally splurged on the dresser pictured above!  It’s the Santerno dresser in Grigio Carmine from Home Decorators Collection.  I had been scouring thrift stores for one to paint (as were Mother and my sweet friend P), but just kept coming back to this one as it was the perfect size and color.  It was a lot more than I wanted to spend, but when it went on sale and had free shipping over memorial day, I finally let go of the birthday money I’d been holding on to since March and just bought it.  It arrived this week and perfect.  It’s SUPER heavy, sturdy and well made and offers lots of storage, which is always nice to have.  It’s a little taller than I had wanted, so I’m hoping the mirror I have in the attic will still fit over it.

I’ve since ditched the target shade for an old one I made for the baby’s nursery.  It’s sentimental and fun and sweet friend P talked me into it.

On an impulse, I threw this Smith & Hawken water hyacinth basket in the buggy at Target this morning (tell me I’m not the only one that tries to run errands before their husband leaves for work in the morning).  I have been looking for something to hold some of the scores of books strewn all about and knew as soon as I saw it here that it was the winner.  The diagonal cross pattern mimics the one in the chandelier and the texture is perfect with the rug.

The last little addition was the trash can for my office space in the closet.  I had been using this tin up in my laundry room, and had HKL Designs make me a decal of my monogram in gold to dress it up.  I never knew how much one could love a trash can until now :-)  I picked this up somewhere before John was born – maybe at Garden Ridge or Hobby Lobby.

As for the to-do list, here’s where we are tracking:
To Do List:

  • Remove wall shelves
  • Patch holes
  • Paint – need paint color first!
  • Hang window treatments
  • Organize closet
  • Decide on daybed vs 2 chairs – if daybed will need bedding and pillows… oh, and we will need new hardware since it was all lost in the move
  • Get coffee table out of attic??
  • Paint mirror from attic
  • Find chest for between windows
  • Find rug
  • Take down fan and figure out new lighting
  • Find the missing closet door (It has been located!  Needs to be put back on the track now.)
  • Closet light
  • Seat cushions for desk chairs
  • Pillows for slipper chairs
  • Get desks built and installed
  • Procure hardware for desks
  • Find a big floor basket/bin/tub/container to hold books
  • Dress up the pull chain on the closet light
  • Hang roman shade for door
  • Line insides of desk doors with chalkboard vinyl
  • Find baskets to organize supplies inside of desk cabinets

Slowly but surely wins the race!
xoxo

  1. That dresser is perfection…as is the lamp and basket. Makes me want to rip my family room apart and start over! Lovely, as always.

  2. April – what online tool do you use to create your design boards? We are building a house and I need to create a few so that my Honey can see the "vision"! thanks!!

Oh – and clearly this room is spectacular!!

  3. We use baskets and tins for books here at Nanaland too. With all the grands, we have books galore. I also added a large flat basket in my living room. it slides under one of the bigger chairs and holds all my magazines until I have a chance to look at them and recycle them to the bathroom reading baskets.:) Love the dresser and the waste basket!! Just perfect. I may try my hand at painting a garbage can and stenciling a G on it! Thanks for the inspiration.

  4. Love the room, but I am IN LOVE with the picture. Please tell …. where can I buy one?

  5. Bama Girl – I used a powerpoint slide to make this one. I also use photoshop. Depends on what computer I'm on :-)

Jackie – It is a painting from Amy Fogg art on etsy!

  6. Hi Amanda. I enjoy reading your blog and love your style. I can't wait to see how this room all comes together! I love the ceiling pendant. Do you have a source for that?

  7. Amanda, meant to ask…is the lamp new or have your had it? Trying to find a Mercury glass lamp for our library to add a bit of contrast and shine. I love the base on yours!! I may need one a bit taller however.

    1. I got it at the pb outlet 2 years ago. I feel like they might still carry it. The ones from our master were also from there – taller but don't know if they still carry those. xo

  8. Thanks Amanda! We were at the outlets today checking out the sales. No luck. But, I know PB has some in the store and I am keeping my eye out at Home Goods as well.
