Musings

There’s not much I love more than summer.  We’ve spent most of our days doing something that resembles this… friends, a pool, card games and maybe a cocktail here or there for the adults.

Honey treated us to a yummy Waffle House style breakfast on his hibachi grill Sunday.  We lounge around in tailgate chairs in our jammies in the driveway while it cooks.  It doesn’t happen often, but when it does it’s fabulous.

The littles and I have had this game of Monopoly going on since last Tuesday.  The baby won it all tonight.  Just in time for me to vacuum the rug.  We were wearing it bare with all the hours logged here.

We celebrated Bird’s birthday on his actual day at where else, but a hibachi supper!  This is the motley crew I run with…

Speaking of Bird, I was so sad when my other pink boot wouldn’t fit over my brace for the Saddle Up & Celebrate soiree.  Nikes just didn’t do anything for my ensemble.

We took the baby to a party at the batting cages and Honey had the most fun of all.

Here’s another outtake of the cousins after the pony party.  We sat them at the end of the table with the men for a change while us girls caught up.

I have amassed a little collection of Raw Threads Disney princess inspired gear.  This Ariel one is a fave.

Have you seen the new Lilly printed shades?  TOO cute not to snap up a pair and not as pricey as her options in the past.  ($38)

I’ve been stockpiling new movies for our summer road trips.  These should be worth at least nine hours of quiet.  And yes, my rough and tumble boys watch princess movies.  They are classics!

Ina Garten’s mustard marinated flank steak and truffled mashed potatoes have become staples around here on the weekends ever since our Barefoot Dinner Party.  And this week’s was doubly productive since the littles had “grill steaks” on their summer bucket list.  (boys)

Mother has been on me for ages to watch Mr. Selfridge and I finally started watching a whole season’s worth of recordings.  They are SOOOOO good.  I highly recommend for an hour of good and beautiful tv watching.

Has anyone successfully painted Toms?  I want to get Mother to help me do some but there are loads of tutorials out there and they are all different!  Here’s the one I’ve pinned so far.

The baby was up in the middle of the night screaming about stomach pains, so I was up for two hours talking to the nurse and trying to figure out if he needed to go to the ER (we did not, it was bad gas as my mommy instinct told me).  We let him sleep in our bed the rest of the night to keep him nearby.  He slept like a baby.  Honey and I, not so much.  To that end, I’m imposing a family bed time in t minus twenty-nine minutes.  Wish me luck :-)
xoxo

  1. Poor Cookie – glad to hear it was nothing serious! Aren't summer days just the best? Water, sunshine, friends & cocktails (and baseball, for us) – what could be better? Summer is off to a great start! xo

  2. Go to shannonberrey.com and then search Tom's painted shoes. Should be a good tutorial there. She is an amazing designer.

  3. OH- You have it just right! That is what summer should be all about–playing with the kids, hanging out and having fun. Love the party in the driveway idea. Your kids are just so cute…you are deeply and surely blessed…and I know that you know that. xo Diana

    ps…love Lily Pulitzer anything!

  4. Love the Lilly sunglasses, but with the lower price let's hope they do not become the next Vera Bradley which is everywhere and used by everyone. LOL! Love your musings. Why am I up so early??? Damn routines! xo

  5. Love your musings. There is a shop by Baylor in Waco that has the cutest painted Toms!! We've thought about trying it too. And, I have seen so many pairs of Lilly inspired Sperrys on Pinterest as well. Kate and I each ordered a pair of the new Lilly sunnies…love them!! Great price, super fun and lightweight.

  6. Love the Lilly print…same as my summer tumblers. Thanks for the reminder about Mr. Selfridge. I remember telling Hubby I wanted to start watching it after Downton, but then life got in the way.
