Dixie Delights World Headquarters

Are y’all ready for this?!?!  In about two point five seconds I’m going to unveil the worldwide headquarters of Dixie Delights.  This, my friends, is where the magic happens…

As you know, work has been under way to transform our playroom into a family office for most of this year.  Once upon a time, this space was home to costumes, toys, games and books.

When The Container Store had their elfa closet systems on sale in February, I bit the bullet and splurged on what is now the nicest, most expensive closet I’ve ever (and might ever) own.  But, after working out of it for the last couple of months, it was worth every penny.  I emptied out TWO other closets to perfectly put everything in its place in the new space.  If you’re wondering, the folks at Container Store were a pure pleasure to work with.  I made an appointment in advance and came armed with my measurements and a short list of things I wanted to see in the space.  I emailed the plan they sent me home with to two other companies for competitive price quotes and Container Store blew them out of the water.  Honey installed everything in a few hours but they do have people that can do it for you.  It took about six weeks for everything to come in, but I was in no rush – just be warned.

I’ve got two complete rows of shelves at the top for baskets.  I was able to reuse all of the Pottery Barn Kids Sabrina baskets with scalloped liners from our playroom here and they work perfectly.  I have stored all of my party wares (plates, cups, napkins, straws, favor bags and such) on the very top shelf in the larger baskets.  The smaller baskets hold craft supplies like paints, glues, tapes, etc.  There is room for my printer off to the left as well – this was previously located on the floor of my closet and it was always a pain in the neck to print anything.

I made the pin board out of a cork board from Target and left over pillow fabric and ribbon.  It literally took me two minutes.  My kind of project!  The file holder, scissors and stapler are Nate Berkus for Target.  Bestie E gave me the darling folders and I’ve been holding on to them for months for this very place!!

I adore the versatility of the peg board for keeping things of all shapes and sizes that I use almost every day just an arms reach away.  I can’t tell you how much time I spent standing on my head trying to get something out from the bottom of stacked bins in my guest room closet for the last five years.

Down below I have SO much storage for all sorts of paper, stationery, ribbons, packing supplies and more party stuff.  To the left is a roll out cart that I use for the littles’ art and homework supplies.  The schoolhouse bar stool is from World Market and I have had the trash can for eons.  Tricia at HKL Designs cut the gold monograms for me!

Thanks to a fantastic reader suggestion, I ordered the capiz hanging lantern from World Market to cover the bare bulb.  I found the vintage gold tassel pull at Paris Market in Savannah and it was the perfect finishing touch.

I not only use this space for all of my crafting, but also for the computer.  It plugs in just outside of the closet and it is SO nice to finally have a home for it.  It used to live under my bed for crying out loud.

Exactly one half of the room is now complete.  Of course, I still need to get Honey to hang the other closet door.  We did find it in the back of the storage room.  Here’s a little sneak peek – the coffee table is just thrown together and is subject to change…

I cut the annabelle hydrangeas from the back yard.  Best.plant.ever.  And I’ve had it for three years and it’s still kicking!!

Since I seem to always close these family office project posts out with an updated to-do list, here’s where we’re at…

To Do List:

  • Remove wall shelves
  • Patch holes
  • Paint – need paint color first!
  • Hang window treatments
  • Organize closet
  • Decide on daybed vs 2 chairs – if daybed will need bedding and pillows… oh, and we will need new hardware since it was all lost in the move
  • Get coffee table out of attic??
  • Paint mirror from attic
  • Find chest for between windows
  • Find rug
  • Take down fan and figure out new lighting
  • Find the missing closet door (It has been located!  Needs to be put back on the track now.)
  • Closet light
  • Seat cushions for desk chairs
  • Pillows for slipper chairs
  • Get desks built and installed
  • Procure hardware for desks
  • Find a big floor basket/bin/tub/container to hold books
  • Dress up the pull chain on the closet light
  • Hang roman shade for door
  • Line insides of desk doors with chalkboard vinyl
  • Find baskets to organize supplies inside of desk cabinets

Things are really moving along!!!

xoxo

  1. Love the world headquarters Amanda. I love being organized and I like your punch list. I was cleaning the other day and thought to myself that I needed to draw up a punch list of things we need here at Nanaland. It seems the only way things are accomplished is with a plan!!

  2. I LOVE it – every single detail! It does make such a difference to have a functional (& posh!) place to make the magic happen!

  3. Wow, Amanda what a beautiful organized place and has your touch all over it, very inspiring! Love reading your blog daily! Happy Summer! Blessings,Suzanne

  4. Beautiful as always Amanda! Inspires me to do some organizing around here too.

Quick question – how do you prevent your cut hydrangeas from wilting?

    Thank you!

  5. That is some organization system, Amanda! I always love to see organized crafty stuff — you just need those spaces for having some good clean (or painty, gluey) fun!

  6. Looks lovely Amanda. So happy to see you found a special spot for the boys' homecoming gowns…those special touches make a house a home. Can't wait for the full reveal.
