The Last Hurrah

Well, just like that the 74 days of summer vacation came and went. We crossed nearly everything off our summer bucket list, added a few extras to boot, and were left to just soak up the last dog day of summer. We swam, played a little corn hole and indulged in ice creams at the pool all afternoon…

It’s was kid’s choice supper and I was delighted to put together our favorite BBQ sundaes for the occasion…

And after baths we snuggled up in Mommy and Daddy’s bed to read How Not to Start Third Grade and The Night Before Kindergarten…

The backpacks are packed, lunches are prepped, clothes are laid out and the table is set for our traditional first day of school pancake breakfast. Everything is ready but ME!

  1. I still can't believe all the kiddos are back in school. My oldest has already taught a week!! CRAZY. I was thinking you all would go back when she did. Love the BBQ sundae. Great idea. Need to remember that for a back yard get together. And, what a great way to start with the sweet books.
Praying they both have a great first day. But, more importantly I will be praying for you tomorrow. I still remember the day Katie left for Kindergarten (please tell me how she is now going to be a senior in college!!!). The house was waaaay too quiet, even the dogs noticed. If it is any consolation…I still cry after the start of the school year…whether one is teaching or one is off to the university for another year. But, I wouldn't take it back for anything. Each year I am more and more proud of the young women they have become, and to wish to go back would be to take back all they have accomplished. Hang in there, and I am here if you need a shoulder!!! And yes, we will do lunch very soon!!!

  2. Awwww! I teach and have to go back tomorrow but my kiddies have one more week to be at home. Hope everyone has a good first day back and a great year!

  3. Crazy, maybe, but I thought about this today! Be joyful of the blessings, take a lot of deep breaths and look forward to the fun you'll have when they get home. Play in your magical studio and they'll be back before you know it! I'll be over here, crying that the summer is gone!
