A Chalk Project

Now that I have the little one in Kindergarten, it’s fun to see what sorts of things are the same and what is new since three years have passed and we are with a different (and fabulously amazing) teacher this go round.  I shared the darling year of handprints book that John’s class did in Kindergarten back in 2012.

Well, Whit’s teachers wanted to change it up and do something different this year.  They enlisted my help and we had so much fun chalking up the pavement for the first of a year’s worth of sidewalk pictures!!

Since this one was for August, we wrote “Kindergarten 2014-2015” (with a couple of dragonflies since that is their class mascot) and had each student pose holding an apple.  We’re planning a chalk pumpkin patch for this month and something spooky for October.  I can’t wait to share them as we do them!!

While I’m on the subject of school, John has had two tests already. Third grade is no joke!  He came home with a rocks and minerals study guide Tuesday to prepare for a test on Wednesday. oy. I’ve never been able to just read something and remember it, but actually had to study my whole life to do well so it’s something I’m used to doing.  So, we made flashcards, acrostics, and silly little rhymes to learn the materials.  He left home fully prepared and said he thought studying was fun so I’m really hoping he did well :-)  Oh, and if you need to know anything about rocks and minerals, I’m your gal now.  (Kind of how I’m also your go to if you need someone to handle rabid animals…LOL)

  1. Rabid animals, rocks & minerals – there is no end to your vast knowledge! :-) The chalk project will be adorable. Can't wait to see the pumpkin patch! xo

  2. Moh's Hardness Scale (1-10). Talc (1)-Diamond (10)
    Aren't rocks interesting??? LOL

    Quiz:
1.What is the hardness of gypsum?
    2. What are the three types of rock?

  3. What a cute idea for capturing the kids throughout the year. It is always fun to see how much they have grown!!
Yes, I found third grade to be a year of transitioning the kids into the upper grades, more homework, more tests, and a few projects in-between.

  4. Cute idea with the chalk! Our kids just started back to school today but I know from my older son that 3rd grade is pretty demanding! Good thing you have that gorgeous family office to inspire him to study…

  5. As soon as I left my comment a minute ago, I jumped over to Pinterest and a pin for Bat party favors popped up. I pinned it to my fall board if you are interested in doing a whole bat themed Halloween this year…hahaha

  6. I used index card notes all during Nursing School Amanda!! And I have a son who can look at something once and commit it to memory. ( And no he did not go to GA Tech must to his dad's dismay!!)

  7. Love the chalk idea! Can't wait to see the other months!

We are only 2 weeks into 1st grade and have discovered it's an all new world. My always got 100's Kinders brought home a 57 & 72 this week. Not because they didn't know or understand the material (it's actually far too easy for them), but because they were too busy finishing the work before the teacher even finished passing it out and didn't follow their teachers' directions to the letter of the law. She wanted the numbers spelled out UNDER the 10 frame, not above. So she counted it all wrong. We are in so much trouble…
