Messages from Mickey

Some of our favorite magical memories from past trips are Messages from Mickey. We’ve saved a bundle of money on souvenirs as whenever we passed a store we just reminded the littles that Mickey would be picking out a treat especially for them each day! And the littles literally bound out of bed each morning to read their note and open their treat.

Mickey’s first treat is almost always the autograph books. Because the littles need them as soon as they are going to see the first character :-)

In addition to the things I made them, I’ve been stashing items away for an entire year in preparation of our big trip! I used to grab them a bunch of little things out of the dollar bin, but as they have gotten older we’ve had a lot of fun taking time on vacations to play board games in the room while resting or to throw on a movie. I picked up the game, dominos, bingo and movie all while on sale at different times and places over the last year. The bagged candy was from WalMart and I really couldn’t say where I found the rest of the things. On mornings when we aren’t going to be in the park, Mickey’s treat might be the Hedbanz game to play in the room. On a park day, Mickey’s treat might be the Play Packs that are great for blowing time in line.

I’ve wanted to get them Duffy bears for soooo long! They are so soft and snuggly and both of mine still sleep with a pile of friends every.single.night. I don’t think the bears ever go on sale, so I snagged them when I had a 15% off coupon and free shipping to Disney Store online.

We are attending Mickey’s Backyard BBQ with bestie S and her family one night and she outfitted the littles and ME with these darling shirts. She had HKL Designs do the Mickey cowboys and found my shirt at Target. I made the bandana bow for my headband and will wear my Mickey Magic Band bow. Mickey will leave these shirts with a note inviting them to the event.

On our Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party day, Mickey will leave their costumes, light up trick or treat buckets from last year and tickets to the party.

On our first water park day, Mickey will bring the littles towels and swim suits made by Mother. I snagged the solid red trunks from Lands End last spring. I never thought I’d find solid red!

And on another park day, Mickey will bring Story Cubes, Activity Pads and these PRECIOUS chalkboard Mickey shirts from That Southern Chick. I’ll be packing a box of chalk in our bag that day and think the possibilities are just endless with this one. The story cubes and activity pads are also GREAT ways to keep littles entertained while waiting in lines or on busses.

On the very last day we let the littles pick their own souvenir from one of the stores. This is always fun to watch, anxiously awaited and thoroughly discussed throughout the trip. We’re leaving tomorrow and it’s still a complete SURPRISE for the littles!!!!!!!!!!!!! Stay tuned for the big moment :-)

xoxo

  1. I am so excited that you will be going back to the most magical place on earth. Amanda, you make it even more magical for your guys. Be sure to take a wagon ride around the campground to see the camp sites that are decorated for Halloween. The closer to Halloween the more camp sites are decorated. I know you all will never grow too old for Disney. We haven't and we are 72 and 66. We were suppose to be going in October with 4 other camping couples, but we had to postpone until next October. We still try to go with our family as much as possible.
Loved reading about your sister's trip to Disneyland.
Look forward to your blog everyday.

    Be careful and have fun.

  4. I am AMAZED! You have me so excited to take my boys to Disney when they are old enough. I cannot wait to reread all of these posts and make memories of our own. I hope you have a wonderful trip, and I am CERTAIN you will be the cutest girl in the park with all of these bows!

  5. I continue to love to read about the special things you plan for your kids. It's just magical! Lucky kids!
