20 Years Later

It’s SO hard to believe that I just celebrated the my 20th high school reunion. Most days I still feel like I’m twenty. (But then there are those other days when I feel like I’m at least eighty.)FullSizeRender (23)

I had the very best time torturing Honey with my high school memories. As much as I was into ballet, I still adored every aspect of cheerleading under the Friday night lights.

I went to the Engineering & Robotics Academy at Jenkins High School. There were a small group of us in each grade and I liken it to today’s magnet programs. We.were.dorks. Seriously. The rest of the school called us “the nerd herd.” All jokes aside, we pretty much lived in our own little world and all of us agreed this weekend that we loved the way we did high school! The teachers really sheltered us from some of the other crazy things going on at the school – I mean, we played spades in the gym for an entire year when they realized we didn’t mix well with the rest of the students in PE. LOL.

Case in point to the nerd herd comment… receiving our academic letter jackets.

We had a great turn out for our 10 year, but our 20 was much smaller. The committee did a lovely job and everyone had a fabulous time!!

Ahhh… only in the south do you get chicken ‘n waffles on your buffets. YUM!

These are two of my life long besties. I have been friends with B (middle) for almost 35 years. And I met and instantly became friends with E (right) in middle school. These are the kind of friends that you just pick up where you left off with and I love them both to pieces!!

We were missing just one of the senior cheerleaders. A on the left was captain and I was co-captain. These two were SO MUCH FUN in high school!!!

Bestie B and I braved the dance floor. Thank goodness those cheerleaders thought me enough dance moves to get by.

After the reunion we ended up meeting up at Rocks at the Bohemian for a while too. So great to catch up with these gals. All are married, we have nine kids between us, and our husbands were DOLLS to let us gab for so long.

As for the rest of our weekend getaway, we hit Local 11ten for dinner on our way in to town. It’s one of my favorites!! Always get the catch of the day chef’s prep. It is delish every time!! And the early autumn cocktail they were serving was just amazing.

On Saturday, we slept in and enjoyed a lovely and scenic coffee walk around Savannah. We stopped in the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist where we were married twelve years ago.

We lunched at The Public Kitchen & Bar. Their rosemary mule was to die for. Oh, and the grilled brie and ham sammie too!!

We did dessert at Back In the Day Bakery. They were out of ‘nana puddin’ for the day, so cookies had to suffice. Believe me, it was not a sacrifice :-)

And we wrapped up our day before the big event with a little Lilly shopping. He’s a good man, that Honey.

All in all it was a lovely getaway, filled with loads of memories and lots of fun. I’m already looking forward to 25!! Many, many thanks to Mother and Daddy-O for holding down the fort so we could enjoy Savannah.

While days gone by are on my mind, can y’all believe Renee Zellweger’s new face? Reportedly not the product of plastic surgery, but a “happy, healthy” lifestyle. smh. Why, oh why???!!!! I am a firm believer in just owning up. I really don’t care one way or another but don’t be saying your happiness made you unrecognizable.

Happy hump day!!
xoxo

  1. Looks like fun!! My brother in law, Wm Grimm, was counselor at Jenkins in the 2000s. And I have to say, I loved Renee's pre healthy living face! She is one of my favorite actresses and I almost did not know her when I saw that face online Monday. I also like the phrase, nerd herd….lol. I was a nerd princess as well and I agree that nerdy friends are the best to have!

  2. well, i can see from your pictures you've always been beautiful. i'm on the committee for our reunion next year…no, i'm not saying how many years! we've had a preliminary meeting and i was kinda shocked at how some of my classmates looked that were at that first meeting…especially the fellas!

wow! what in the world was renee zellweger thinking?!?!?! if that's what "healthy happy lifestyle" does to you….show me the donuts! pitiful.

  3. Reunions are always so fun! You really have not changed much in 20 years, but I have to ask… is that you in the picture in a UGA swaetshirt?! ;-)

Glad y'all had a lovely weekend! xo

    1. Ahhh yes! I can't be held responsible for bad high school clothing choices :-) It belonged to my high school boyfriend (top left in the grad nite pic) and that was just the cool thing to do… wear his UGA sweatshirt.

  4. I love hearing about reunions! You guys are all so cute and looked like you had a wonderful time! I am still close with several friends from my childhood. It's so comforting to be with people who really know you and who you can always pick right up where you left off. Love your dress too!

  5. You are just a living doll and I so enjoyed your flashback photos, mixed with the ones from today. My reunion had 58, which was a fairly good turnout, and we had a great time. I LOVE reunions and just wish they had added our senior pictures to the name tags (like they have in the past) because some people (men) were even harder to recognize than Renee! (I'm going with eyelids, unkempt eyebrows, fat removed from cheeks and maybe a chin implant.) Yikes! I think I've been in southern California too long! Let me ask my plastic surgeon! ;-)

Cute, cute post! Thank you for sharing your fun weekend.

  6. And another thing…I was so shocked by those pictures of Renee Zellweger that I just looked up more on the internet to see if maybe that picture you posted was a "bad shot". Unbelievable! If that is what happens when you adopt a happy healthy lifestyle…then I say bring on the chocolate! Wow, just wow…

  7. What a fun weekend. You don't look any older than your senior pictures!! Yes, had to chuckle over the UGA sweatshirt. And, oh my…had not seen the "new happy" Renee. Nothing healthy or happy about that look.

  8. It seems we have some mutual FB friends. I saw several of the above pictures on my FB wall over the weekend. Glad ya'll had a good time. Reunions are fun. I had my 20th back in, well lets just say I am older than you. :-)

  9. Love this! I am on the committee right now to plan my 20th for next year! I, too, was in a bit of a "nerd herd" haha. It is so fun to look back on those pictures from high school because many of my classmates still look the same! Most of us keep in touch on Facebook, etc. recently we discovered one of our classmates is a James Beard finalist and another is starring on NCIS! Pretty cool stuff. :)

  10. If I may…

Simply LKJ – Your bangs are insanely cute! I love your new picture! You look so retro!

  11. Ok, what's your secret? You look the same ~ not older at all! :) I don't think Renee did herself any favors ~ she was adorable to begin with.

Sounds likes a fun weekend ~ always great to catch up with good friends.
