Rockstar Birthdays

The third grade team at John’s school is having one birthday celebration day each month for all of the kids turning a year older.  (I’m not even going to share my thoughts on that right now…)  After a little back and forth, John finally decided that he wanted to treat his class to double doozies.

Seeing as two dozen of those little gems would have cost a pretty penny, we set to work with some break and bake cookies and jarred icing.  They were super simple and VERY yummy!!

His class is known as Miss C’s Rockstars, so I made quick and easy little toothpick toppers for the cookie sandwiches.  With that done, I’m on a mission to savor the last twelve days of having an eight year old.  :-)

  1. It could be worse…at least they get to celebrate their birthdays. Our school has a no food/no treats/ no fun (ok I added that let part?) policy. Planning holiday parties is quite the task.

  2. Isn't it sad?! In third grade at my sons' school, they move to celebrations once a TRIMESTER! :(
    The double doozies look awesome!

  3. I love your idea to use pre-made cookie dough and canned icing for a crowd sized treat. Even when you're sick, you're way ahead of us! Feel better and enjoy a cozy weekend. Jane ~ SD

  4. Those are so cute! Once a month…oh please, does it really take that much time out of the day to celebrate a child's birthday?… In our school, we still get to bring in something for the class but the first ingredient cannot be sugar. Hope you feel better!

  5. I've never made those, but I have made the ice cream sandwich version that was in southern living a couple of years ago (so messy, but delicious). Yours looks like a much more attainable goal next time around. Ha I know what your mean, my Evan turns 9 in April…it hurts me. :( Hope you're feeling better & all birthday festivities are fabulous!

  6. Oh. My. Gosh. Just stop the insanity over on Instagam. I do believe I will need a spoiler alert when CeeCee is going to wear that insanely adorable outfit because I don't think I'll be able to take it! The hot pink and navy gorgeous! Jane ~ Screaming in San Diego :-)

  7. I think Monograms Mud and I must live in the same place. We have a no food/no treats/no fun policy, too. But the school insists on doing Christmas and Valentines party. With nasty mini cupcakes from the cafeteria and mini water bottles as the only refreshment. KILLS ME! PTO provides each class some pittance of money to decorate do a craft with and you aren't allowed to supplement it as that wouldn't be fair to the other classes. I have even volunteered to do the decorations/kick in addl money to all the classes in the same grade been told no.

They also have a strict no mention of Halloween policy – like it doesn't even exist. I thought we were going to get kicked out of school their Kindergarten year when I brought in Halloween themed favor bags for the kids to take home.

    Sigh… I hate public school.

  8. oh my, so crazy the classroom has been so limited in terms of celebrations!!! i guess things have changed from when i was in school. those kids are missing out on all your creative and delicious looking treats! im pretty sure if you were one of my classmates moms i would have always been sooo excited for your treats that u would bring the class! Lol! anyways these look SOOO delish. would you be able to post a recipe on your blog someday? fabulous and creative as always! youre such an awesome mom!
