Traditions

We celebrated the first day of 2015 in the same way we have for as many years as I can remember – with Sister and her family and a traditional feast of pork, hoppin john, greens and cornbread.FullSizeRender

I used a different recipe for the pork this year.  It was a bit spicy and SO yummy paired with the hoppin john.

Sister brought a box of CamiCakes Cupcakes for dessert.  We cut them into fourths and each sampled quite a few!

And she left us with bags of Daddy-O’s famous chex mix.  YUM!!

You can find all of the recipes for our usual feast here and the blackberry jalapeno pork on Simply LKJ’s blog.

We’re celebrating our last Christmas of 2014 – or is it the first of 2015!? – with Honey’s family tonight.  I’ve got to get crackin on my pecan pie!!

  1. Our menu was much the same, only we had regular 'ol pork roast. How I WISH I could convince my crew to try something new! Traditions are part of what make life rich. Thank you for sharing yours each year! xo

  2. I really need to start a new tradition with a hearty meal for New Year's Day. This is perfect!! I love that you paired your usual fixings with the blackberry jalapeno pork we love so much. If you take the seeds out of the jalapeno, it will be a bit less spicy. However, we love it as is.
And let's just talk about darling CeeCee's fur vest…so stinkin' caute!!!!

  3. Happy New Year! Thanks for sharing your family's tradition. Question: How in the world do you keep your beautifully upholstered kitchen chairs clean? I have two boys (ages 11 and 8) and this is a constant battle for me.

    1. Well they might not be as clean in real life as they look in photos as we have had a few spills. I do treat them with spray fabric protector (scotch guard) and that helps tons. If we are eating something messy (like lasagna or spaghetti) I just throw a kitchen towel down on the seat of their chair. I think mostly they are just a good color to disguise any spills and the scotch guard has been a real chair saver.
