Bellamy’s Oyster

Honey gave me a gorgeous, original oyster painting by Bellamy Murphy of Savannah for our tenth anniversary.  He went through Savannah must-shop Sweet Tea to commission the stunning piece.

I’ve been chomping at the bit to get this beaut hung, but it needed a little something extra for the space I had in mind.  When we originally purchased our home, the nook where I made our growth chart in the upstairs hallway was originally a strange, floor to ceiling bookshelf that screamed Precious Moments figurines.  Honey fashioned together five of the shelves to make a gorgeous, planked piece to back the Bellamy.  I love that the wood is original to our 1968 home!

I could not be happier with the final look.  I literally grin from ear to ear every time I walk by.  I’ve updated my Den Before & After post with the new look!

  1. Saw your link at Homemaker on a Dime. The art is so gorgeous! I have a soft spot for beachy things. And what a great idea to back it with the reclaimed wood to give it a pop off the wall. I just check out your home tour, and I love the coral in your basement bathroom too!

  2. i LOVE THAT!! honey is a man of so many talents! and i laughed out loud at your precious moments mention. do you know i used to work at the hallmark in athens during college and people used to go nuts over the precious moments figurines. i would ring them up thinking to myself, are you quite sure you want to spend $35 on this POS?! don't get it. and blog-ff, i am so touched by your award! will have to get busy on my acceptance :)

  3. Love your oyster! The Sea Island Condo where we vacation over the July 4th week had a similar painting, paired with another picture of a giant shrimp! Great anniversary present! Congratulations!

  5. I went on a girl's trip to Savannah last year and I think we went to Sweet Tea shop. It had a lot of those oysters paintings in it along with SO many delightful items. We ate at the "Pink House" too. I love YOUR painting and the creative way that you hung it. I saw your post over at "A Stroll Thru Life".

  6. I am so glad to see someone else who loves oyster paintings! I've bought two this year as well in Mobile, AL.

Wouldn't some antique oyster plates look beautiful with them as well?!
