Deck the Halls 2015 {Bedrooms}

As promised, we are heading upstairs to the bedrooms today!

First things first, John’s room… where the littles sleep with visions of sugarplums dancing in their heads.  While my two each have their own room, they still both sleep in here.  Something I will never discourage :-)

I love swapping out their bedding for festive coverlets and sheets.  I’ve had all of this ever since John moved out of a crib many moons ago.  Since it only gets about 6 weeks of use a year, it has held up perfectly and will last us many more.

Our little Christmas countdown tree is also in their room.  They love pulling out the tag for each day to see what kind of special treat is in store.  Sometimes it’s a movie or dinner out and other days it’s a game night or just hot chocolate after school.

Mother made them the Mickey stockings years ago when we were at Disney over the holidays.  I still hang them on their beds because they are too sweet not to use.

John’s desk gets updated with strands of peppermint garland and a few hand made things he’s carried home from school.

The littles each have a tree in their room.  Like our family tree downstairs, these have all been collected or made over the years.  Honey and I each choose a special ornament for them each year and those are added to their collection.  We pick something based on an interest or a place we’ve been or special thing we’ve done that year.

Even though Whit only uses his room to store his clothes, I still add a few touches each year.  I feel compelled to put up his tree just so we can see all of his ornaments from over the years.

The guest room also gets a little tree and swaths of garland on each bed post.  Mother and Daddy-O put trees up for guests in every bedroom and I love doing the same.

Our master bedroom is undergoing yet another update – new mirror, new bed and new rug so it’s in a state of disaster right now.  Hopefully next year I’ll be ready to add a little Christmas in there as well!

  1. I love the idea of an ornament a year for your children. My mother in law started that tradition with the first grandchild. Each grandchild had a small tree at her house and she added an ornament to it each year. When the grandchild graduated from college or got married and moved out on their own, they got all their Christmas ornaments. My oldest just commented yesterday on how excited she was to have a full tree of ornaments on her first tree.

  2. Beautiful as always!

I loved exploring your boys rooms with all the special touches. Love the jar of keepsakes on Whit’s dresser – what a fun idea. I have my boys bronzed shoes and baby dishes (oldest has Bunnykin and youngest Beatrix Potter) in my hutch in the living room.

  3. Your bedrooms are beautifully cozy and inviting and are even more so at the holiday. The boys’ bed linens are always cute and just make John’s room. C’mon, A…let us all move in. Now that we know you have a full attic, there’s plenty of room. ;-) I’ll even bring the cocoa. Merry Christmas! Your home tour is such a fun way to start the morning.

  4. Those boys must love having trees in their rooms! Both rooms are so festive and even though your youngest doesn’t sleep in his regular room, it’s nice to have it decorated as well. You have me intrigued about the changes in your bedroom…just when I thought it couldn’t get any prettier!

  5. I absolutely adore seeing all of your Christmas decor and traditions! Do you mind sharing where you found the advent/countdown to Christmas tree in John’s room? :)

  6. I’ve really enjoyed you sharing your holiday decor, everything is so nice and festive. I love the Christmas bedding too, I just broke out the Rudolph sheets for our son and he loves them. Please share you secret on how the boys’ room stays so tidy. I know you’ve mentioned the toys are in the basement, but your home always looks so neat. Hope you have a wonderful week!

  7. Love the boys rooms and their trees! My kids are all grown up, but we also bought them each a special ornament. My daughter married and I let her take hers. Son is still a bachelor…but I will let him take his too. Sheila

  8. I love your decorating style, Amanda! Everything is just beautiful! Please tell me where you found the dark brown quilt in the guest room. I cannot find that color anywhere. Thanks.

  9. I love that you have the energy to put up full sized trees in the room! Must be so fun to wake up in the morning seeing them there!
