School Night Supper {Orange Chicken}

This barely counts as cooking… opening a couple of frozen packages and heating them up.  But, since my fam loved it so much I thought it was worth sharing.  Orange chicken, jasmine rice and broccoli…

The whole shebang is from Trader Joe’s freezer section.  It only takes a few minutes to heat up and is gone in a flash.  Another fave school night supper from Trader Joe’s is the Gnocci in the freezer section.  YUM!

I’d love to know your Trader Joe’s must gets.  It’s always fun to try new things!

  1. Yum! Heading to TJ’s this morning. Going to grab a bag of orange chicken to try – thanks!

I always have TJ’s frozen spinach and artichoke dip in my freeze for last minute guests and black pepper Toscana cheese!

  2. Amanda,
We love Trader Joe’s, if only we had one closer to us.
This chicken is one of our favorites, too! My husband likes to add some heat to his with Asian chili sauce.
We always buy their low sodium tomato soup, in the box. It’s super creamy and only has 65 milligrams of sodium per cup. I add oregano, powdered garlic and a dash of hot sauce. I buy a few boxes at a time. I’ll serve with grilled cheese sandwiches.

  3. Trader Joe’s!!!! One of my favorite places. They seriously have the best finds there. Some of my fav things to get there:
    -Flowers!!!
-Fresh Herbs – such a good price for a large amount
-Chocolate covered everything :) my fav right now is chocolate covered almonds with sea salt
-Salsa for putting in crockpot meals (you know the ones that call for a jar of salsa)

The orange chicken looks amazing! I’m going to have to grab that next time. This past time I tried the mini wontons and was not a fan :( so disappointed. But it’s ok, the best part is everything is such a good price you can try a bunch of things without breaking the bank.

  4. We love Trader Joes! Couple of things that are always on the list- Roasted corn in freezer section-good in soups or on its own as a side. Pre-marinated chicken breasts that we just pan saute – pesto and sun dried tomato are week night go-tos. The family favorite is a Brussels sprout slaw. Super easy and kinda healthy (all from Trader Joes)

1 packet of Trader Joe’s Shaved Brussels Sprouts and I add the following just till it looks good:
    roasted slivered almonds
    dried cranberries
chopped green onions (about 1/2 of package)
chopped red bell pepper (about 1/2 pepper )
TJ Champagne Pear Vinaigrette to bind all ingredients (in refrigerated section)
salt, pepper to taste (and if the spouts are on the bitter side I add 1 packet of sweet and lo)_

Oh- and don’t forget the frozen macaroons!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. We add the diced pancetta to the gnocchi for extra protein. We also make pizzas with their dough and the pancetta. Mini tacos are popular at our home.

  6. The carry packages of seasoned roast beef that cut up and I heat up with sauteed onions and top with provolone cheese for very fast Philly cheese steak sandwiches. Last night I tried their traditional meatloaf which was excellent and so easy to just add a side dish to. The mushroom ravioli is fast but fancy and a weeknight standby for us is the frozen pizza which is spinach and ricotta, just add a side salad! I am in love with their lavender soap. It smells heavenly!

  7. I have a big list. LOL

I love their frozen mac n’ cheese, dinner, the chocolate croissants, all of the cheeses they have in the case. They have great prices. Also, the Alsatian flat bread is divine and we used to get our turkey meatballs there before we found a brand at our local grocery (TJ’s is an hour away from us) They also carry great nut and seed butters that aren’t awfully expensive.

There is a great blog called “what’s good at Trader Joe’s” that you may want to check out. :)

  8. Thanks for posting this Amanda, another reason I love your blog, you keep it real!! As a working Mom by the time I fight GA 400 traffic, pick up my girls from daycare and get home, a frozen meal is all we have time and energy for. I love hearing yummy, easy ideas & this looks delish, Trader Joe’s here I come :-)

  9. I have this bag of chicken in my freezer right now and have been waiting to try it! Will have to make that this weekend for a quick meal. Love hearing what everyone loves from TJ’s. I stock up on their salsa, meatballs, white cheddar popcorn, and tomato soup when I go! I don’t think I have ever had anything that was bad.

  10. I like to get a 22 of beer and a round wedge of brie. Cut a hole in the center of the brie and put it over the neck of the beer. A drink and a snack you can eat at the same time. Good for when you’re vacuuming!

  11. I love to serve the orange chicken with the vegetable fried rice (freezer section).
Another favorite is to make and eat “DIY sushi” with my 4 year old daughter for lunch. We split dried seaweed squares (in the chips and cracker section), jasmine rice (freezer), guacamole (fridge) and top with sliced carrots and cucumbers.

  12. I love their fried rice, frozen spinach/artichoke dip, cookie butter, roasted red pepper soup, flowers and cheeses. My husband loves their triple ginger snaps.

  13. Those TJ meals come in handy when you are running boys to practices. Just had the Chicken LoMein tonight. We love their Chicken Pot Pie, Lasagna and Pesto Tortellini all in the refrigerated section and my boys love their frozen Spinach Ravioli. Oh and their Basil Marinara Sauce is awesome…oh and don’t forget the pizza crust which you can use in a million ways…now I’m getting hungry!

  14. Someone suggested the pizza dough that comes in a bag. My suggestion….make the pizza on the BBQ…YUM! I usually make a few smaller size pizzas out of the dough so I can use a spatula to get it on and off the grill.
