Greetings! I’m so excited to be here on Dixie Delights! I have to tell you, this is sort of a surreal moment for me because I discovered Amanda’s blog many years ago. It was the first blog I ever read and really is the main reason I started a blog of my own. To be on her blog right now as a guest is one of those pinch-me-I can’t-believe-this-is-real moments. Thanks Amanda!
My family and I moved to a barrier island off the coast of Florida into a brand new small builder grade home two years ago after living in the Atlanta area in a large two story Georgian. I’ve been on a mission to marry my love of French Country while giving our home a slightly coastal feel and documenting it on my blog, Slightly Coastal.
The first rooms to get my attention were my two son’s rooms because I wanted them to feel like they had a space that reflected them. Hayden was born in Texas and he will tell you through and through he’s a Texan, even though he loves to ride the waves now.
Luke, my four year old, will tell you in a heartbeat how much he loves the color green. He wanted an entire green bedroom. Not a nice soothing green. He wanted full out green crayon green. We settled on a striking green dresser, green shiplap behind his bed, and a few green accessories instead. He thinks he has a green room. Shhhh…don’t tell him his room is mostly neutral at heart.
I added a few coastal feeling pieces and vignettes to the main part of our house which is a very open concept family room, kitchen, and dining room. Other than a few spaces to make it look a little more homey I haven’t tackled this open space at all. I will say, living in a smaller house has brought us closer together because there isn’t really anywhere to “escape” in a small house.
I converted an old Lego tray into a large coffee table tray and I change the decor out for the seasons. Each season I cut a piece of fun wrapping paper to fit it and have fun styling it to always look festive. When the season is over the wrapping paper is tossed and a new cute print is displayed. This post has one of my favorite stories to go along with it. Seriously, it’s that moment when you realize your teenager really has a sense of humor.

Last fall I participated in the One Room Challenge and decided to tackle our master bathroom. Let me tell you…some people thought I was crazy for “renovating” a brand new bathroom. But I wanted to create a coastal feeling bath without changing any of the major fixtures. Would you believe I did this whole makeover using furring strips, wallpaper, and oil-rubbed bronze spray paint?
I’m currently in the middle of making over our master bedroom. After the bathroom was finished, I really felt like the bedroom needed its own moment in the sun. I painted the walls Benjamin Moore Pale Oak and the ceiling Benjamin Moore Quiet Moments. Hmmmm…I wonder where I came up with that idea (those are the colors in Amanda’s gorgeous home office)!? I put together a blue and white plate wall, curated from the thrift store over time, and made it the focal point above the bed. Now, I have found people have definite opinions about where plates belong in a house. I adore plates…so no room is off limits to me.
My latest project has been to infuse a little bit of my love of French Country into the bedroom by creating French Country Wooden Valances in my master bay window. I love the light and airy feeling the space has while still giving it the detail I adore. These were created using 1/4″ plywood, L-Brackets, Wood scraps and some beautiful wood appliques.

This coastal fabric has been my whole inspiration behind the room and will be used as a focal fabric in the room. I could just die. I love this fabric so much (it’s the Sheldon print by Duralee).
Over the next few weeks I’ll be finishing up the master bedroom and embarking on another One Room Challenge kicking off April 8th! I would love for you to stop by and follow along on my progress!
You can find me posting about three times a week over at Slightly Coastal.
Thanks so much Amanda for having me as your guest today! I can’t tell you how thrilled I am to be a part of your lovely blog.
Hugs!
Congrats on the guest post and I love all your coastal inspired rooms. I think the plates look beautiful over the bed and I love that headboard. That fabric is absolutely stunning. Such gorgeous choices!

You have such a beautiful home! I too love those colors as they are so soothing. I had a similar tray that I used to decorate with different papers and such. I had a piece of plexi glass cut to fit it. Worked great for protecting the paper!
Look forward to following your ORC!
