At Home with Housepitality Designs

I have a treat for y’all today!  My friend Shirley at Housepitality Designs has the loveliest and most inviting home.  Her style is decidedly traditional and every single room in the house is full of charm.  As for Shirley herself, well, she has a marvelous sense of humor and reading her blog is an absolute delight.  By clicking on the links to each room, you will find entire posts full of sources and ideas.  Sit back, relax, and enjoy the tour!

THE FRONT PORCH

Guests can’t help but feel welcomed with this large and inviting front porch.  Shirley has a wonderful green thumb!  I adore the double front doors but it’s those pineapple lanterns that really steal the show.

THE FOYER

Just steps inside of Shirley’s house, there is no question that this is a home.  Her entryway holds many items near and dear to her heart.  I love to read her stories on the many meaningful items in her home.

THE GREAT ROOM MANTEL

The house is full of soaring ceilings, and Shirley does a wonderful job of making use of the height.  At the same time, she balances keeping every room warm and inviting.  She often “shops her house” to create seasonal vignettes and keep things fresh.  Such a great and wallet friendly idea.

MORE OF THE GREAT ROOM

I’ve never met a blue and white room I didn’t love, and this one is no exception.  I absolutely love how the accent pillows tie in with the lamps.  And let’s just talk about that grandfather clock… I’ve always always wanted one, having grown up with one.  I’ve been telling myself that I don’t have a good place for one, but Shirley’s looks perfectly at home right here in the great room!!

THE DINING ROOM

Like the rest of her home, Shirley’s dining room is so very inviting and comfortable.  I love the mixture of chairs and the open hutch with her wonderful collection of china.  I also adore her centerpiece.  It’s lovely and functional, as guests would easily be able to talk over it.

THE KITCHEN

Like most of us, the kitchen is the heart of Shirley’s home.  Hers is filled with ironstone, vintage finds and loads of lovely flowers, plants and fruits.

THE MEDIA ROOM

I love Shirley’s mixture of leather and toile in the media room.  She often talks about working with the furniture you have, and giving it an update with a new fabric accent.  If only Honey’s leather furniture hadn’t been bright blue… :-)

THE MASTER BEDROOM

Shirley often changes up her bedding for each season and I absolutely adore what she did for Spring!  Speaking of beds, I adore her four poster rice bed.  I feel like I never see them any more.  I love her petite sitting area, and think the way she placed the painting on top of the shutters really finishes it off.  Oh, and can we all just take a moment to covet that ceiling… I mean, it is just stunning.

THE MASTER BATHROOM

Can’t you just imagine a long soak in this sumptuous bathroom?!  I love the spa blues and buffalo check, and think that having the darling little chair in there really makes it feel luxurious.

THE GUEST ROOM

Like in the master, Shirley always adds seasonal touches to the guest room.  This one is so lovely and inviting, I think it could easily be mistaken for the master!  I love a lot of things about this space, but that gorgeous bedding is the real show stopper.

THE UPPER BACK PORCH

One of my favorite features of Shirley’s home is the upper back porch.  It’s such a lovely place for morning coffee or reading at twilight.  All of the yellows and blues are cheery and inviting, and I absolutely LOVE the furniture.

    1. I know! That upper porch is a dream!!!! We thought about making our closet walk out over the new front porch… but we are on a relatively busy residential street. Did not make much sense :-)

  1. Amanda….thank you so very much for featuring my home here today….I so appreciate your wonderful comments as you describe each room….My home is constantly evolving as you know…..I have had most of my furnishings for decades and always trying to keep things fresh…Have a most wonderful week Amanda!

    1. I LOVE seeing inside other people’s homes too!! I especially love driving around at night when the lights are on and you can really see in. HAHA… makes me sound like a peeping tom.

    1. Her little tweaks are my favorite. I love how she moves things around and brings out new things seasonally, all while keeping her very traditional and lovely style!

  2. I love Shirley’s home, everything she touches is beautiful! Not only is her home beautiful, but Shirley is truly one of the sweetest bloggers…so genuine! Pam @ Everyday Living

  3. I love her home! thanks for sharing! And I love her patio furniture….I have the exact same set. After months of searching for the perfect set, I stumbled on this set at Home Depot and snapped it right up! It was about 20% of the cost of the other sets I was considering at other places, and it’s held up beautifully over the last 5 years. I just had to share/brag (shrag??) since I usually manage to fall in love with the most expensive option and then have to plot and scheme to figure out how I’m going to pay for it:)

    1. I LOVE the new word you coined – “shrag”. It’s always SO rewarding to find a nice inexpensive anything. Yay for you!
