Around Atlanta: Atlanta Symphony Orchestra {40×41}

As y’all know, I’m in the home stretch of finishing out my two year quest to complete 40 things in celebration of my 40th birthday.  Well, not only did Honey give me the horseback riding for Christmas, he also bought tickets for us to attend a show by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra!

Our first stop was for dinner at Twelve Eighty, located right in the same Woodruff Arts Center Complex as the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Hall and the High Museum of Art.  In fact, these little gem first came across my radar when we were visiting the High on another bucket list item!   We already had plans for dinner that night but I made a mental note that I’d love to go back one day.

The restaurant itself is really quite lovely.  We both completely enjoyed our meals!  We started with the Twelve Eighty St. Germain cocktail and a moscow mule, as well as the cheese plate and trio of dips.  For our mains, I had shrimp and grits and chalked them up as the best I’ve had in a LOOOONG time.  Honey had the salmon and loved that.  We will definitely go back.  I did want to share that I tried to get a reservation on Open Table for TWO weeks with no luck.  I then called the day before and put on my very best, sweetest, most charming self to no avail.  We decided to try to walk in and did so with no issue at all!  In fact, the place was half empty all night.  I’m sharing this in the event that it helps someone else out there :-)  Also, if you pre-purchase the symphony parking it is good after 5PM so you can park under the Woodruff Arts Center, take the stairs up to eat and then walk about 10 steps right into Symphony Hall.  It’s SO convenient!

After dinner we walked right over to Symphony Hall.  It is in the same building as the Alliance Theater and they had concession stands set up with coffee and desserts, which I thought was a lovely touch.

Now, our show wasn’t just any show… it started with a Rise Up Atlanta Falcons mini-video accompanied by the orchestra!  The crowd went wild!

And then the main event was the Raiders of the Lost Ark!!!  Oh.My.Goodness.  It was sensational!!  This was after the show, but they played the movie in its entirety on the big screen, with the lights dimmed.  The symphony played the entire score throughout the entire movie.  They left the voice track in, so you still got all of the dialogue.  It was a really spectacular way to see an old favorite flick AND for newbies to kind of fall in love with the symphony.

We truly had a wonderful night together and will be scouting the symphony calendar for our next event.

I’ll leave you with a tiny dose of Disney… it only seemed fitting to carry my Minnie clutch that Honey gave me for my actual 40th :-)

There are just a few things left on the list and just a few weeks left to do them all!!!  Thank you all for coming on this little journey with me and thank you Honey for supporting this dream of mine <3
