Magical Monday {Tiana’s Riverboat Party}

During our visit earlier this month with Mother, Sister and Bird, we attended Tiana’s Riverboat Party.  The event includes an ice cream social, meet and greets with Tiana and Prince Naveen, Festival of Fantasy parade viewing and a ride around the Rivers of America in Disney’s Magic Kingdom.

The event kicks off with an ice cream social at the Liberty Square Riverboat.  Check-in officially starts 45 minutes prior to the Festival of Fantasy parade (3:00 pm) at 2:15 pm.  We happened to be over in that area at 2:00 and there were two families in line to check in.  I’m not sure that waiting in line to check in early for this event really gets you anything as there were plenty of tables and snacks for everyone.

They started letting guests into the area for the ice cream social at 2:30 pm.  Everything was decorated in the Mardi Gras colors and it was a festive atmosphere.

Each guest was given Mardi Gras beads at the entry, and there was a line to get scoops of ice cream right at the gate.  There were tables set up with all sorts of yummy toppings, and you could go back for as many helpings as you wanted.

At the end of the ice cream line you picked up a little trio of inspired desserts.  They were SUPER cute and well themed.  Our collective favorite was the triple chocolate cookie sandwich.  Yum!

There were Coke products and waters available as well, and we were glad we had an early lunch because there were so many desserts!

Tiana and Prince Naveen have a short meet and greet line during the ice cream social.  I love meeting the princesses with their princes because it rarely happens these days outside of after hours parties.  Not to mention, this is such a fun backdrop with the Liberty Belle and Mardi Gras bunting!

After just a few minutes on the platform, they opened up the rope to enter the Liberty Belle.  I hadn’t read a single review of this event and wasn’t sure where to go.  We headed up to the front of the boat on the top deck just to check things out.

We figured out that we were at a prime spot for the Festival of Fantasy parade so we hung out here while the littles explored the boat a bit and picked up more snacks.

The boat was stocked with the usual ice cream bars, popcorn, a candied popcorn, cotton candy, apples, more Coke products and waters.  There wasn’t a line for anything.

The baby, by himself, ate enough to cover the charge for all five of us.

The parade rolls at 3PM right in Frontierland so we started to see it very soon after.  The Liberty Belle offers a unique vantage point, but I wouldn’t say it’s the best you’ll find.  The floats are all very large and it was neat to see them from the tops.  That being said, you do miss the street dancers and ground level details.  We totally lucked out with a good spot to see the parade – the very best spot you will find is on the top deck, front of the boat, on the rail facing the platform where the social is held.  You would have a hard time seeing much of anything from anywhere else.

After the parade passed, the Liberty Belle sets sail around the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island.  This is really such a neat little break in the day – for ANY Magic Kingdom day.  You catch a breeze and get to see parts of Magic Kingdom that most people never have the time to see!

Tiana and Prince Naveen board the boat before it sails and host a little dance parade around the boat and then mix and mingle with guests during the voyage.  They are some of my favorite characters to interact with – Tiana is funny and entertaining!

Back in Liberty Square, the guests of honor leave the boat followed by the guests.  All in all, we had a lovely time!  It would be hard to eat enough desserts to cover the entry price, but when you consider the atmosphere, unique parade viewing, private sailing and characters, I do think it was worth the cost to experience one time.  This would be particularly true if you have a Tiana lover on your hands!!

As for the rest of our Magic Kingdom day, we got in TONS of rides!!  Whit and Jay were finally old enough to ride together on a lot of things and they had so much fun!

One of the highlights was taking Mother, Sister and Jay on their first Splash Mountain ride!!  They were SOOOO funny all covered up…  Needless to say, THEY LOVED IT!

It was Super Bowl Sunday and we geared up in our home team finest!  I love how the Mickey ears go perfectly with the Falcons gear.  Whit’s shirt was from HKL Designs, my shirt was from Cafe Forty Seven and my ears are from Sweet Candy Magic.

We lucked out with the BEST photo pass photographer in the hub grass at rope drop.  He did the cutest pics of the boys!

We rounded out our day with the cutest little bunny and ducks between Tomorrowland and Main Street.

It was such a fun day and the boys/besties/brothers from different mothers could not have had a better time.

These are the days!!

  1. I love reading about your Disney vacations!! We leave in 11 days for Disney and are so excited! We are going on 3 night cruise on the Wonder at the end of our vacation. I can’t wait to read about your Wonder adventures!!

  2. So happy to read your review on this! I already commented on IG, but I’m taking Curran for a surprise trip for her 8th birthday in July and we are doing this! She loves Tiana, and we have never actually met a princess with her prince, so I’m excited about that! And glad to know where to stand to watch the parade. Was hoping for a shady spot (because, July heat ??) but I think we’ll suffer the sun in order to see. And I’m thinking we’ll try to make this our “lunch” so we won’t be too full to enjoy all the treats!

    1. I hope you love it!! Yes, just suffer through the July heat in the name of a good spot :-) At least all the cold drinks and ice cream are included!
