Celebrating Fifteen at St. Regis Atlanta

As popular as May is for wedding, it sure is hard to find time to celebrate anniversaries.  But, I’d guess most months aren’t really much different.  We usually celebrate with a nice dinner, but have tried to at least get away for one night on the fives.  This year I completely surprised Honey with a night at the St. Regis in Buckhead!!!

I asked Honey to try and block off his calendar at work Thursday afternoon and I did the same.  I told him to call me when he could get away for the day and then headed off to pick him up.  He was so excited and surprised with our getaway.  The hotel was really quite beautiful and everyone was exceedingly nice.

A few of y’all on Instagram asked for a review so I did snap a few quick pics of our room.  We were on the eighth floor and had a lovely view of the courtyard seating areas.  Our room was spacious and luxurious.  I only wish we had more time to enjoy it!

I noted on our reservation that we were celebrating our anniversary and they left us a lovely card as well as a fabulous treat to start our afternoon.

We spent a few hours at the pool and lucked out with incredible weather for doing just that!  I had just come from a work lunch, but Honey enjoyed the BLT at the full service pool restaurant and bar.  I did have a bite because I couldn’t resist and it was really, really good.

At six o’clock every evening, they welcome new guests outside of the Wine Room with the sabering of the champagne!  It was SO interesting to hear about this tradition.  We learned that the ritual started when John Jacob Astor IV founded the first St. Regis Hotel in New York, circa 1904.  Apparently his mother’s afternoon tea included a sabering of the champagne each day as well.  Today, every St. Regis in the world continues the tradition, sabering the very champagne – Monopole Blue Top – that Astor last sipped the evening that he died on the Titanic!  The Master of Ceremonies also told us a bit about how it actually works, which was fascinating as well.  After the bubbly was popped, we all celebrated with a toast!

We ended our night with dinner in Atlas, also at the St. Regis.  I originally booked it just out of convenience, but then read reviews a couple of days before hand as I was doubting my decision.  Well, they were all pretty incredible so we kept the reservation and ended up so happy that we did!  It was a gorgeous and intimate restaurant with an impressive collection of 20th century art, including Monet, Picasso and more!  It felt like dining in a wonderful mix of a gallery and library.  The food was really incredible and the service was flawless.  The meal was not inexpensive, but it took almost two hours to enjoy, which was lovely in a world where I feel like we rush through everything.  We were too full for dessert, but they brought us a strawberry shortcake anyway.  It was really yummy and we managed to make room for it :-)

All in all it was a wonderful mini staycation.  I would definitely recommend the hotel to anyone traveling to Atlanta, which is good because I rarely have any thoughts on hotels here since we live here :-)  Many thanks to Mother and Daddy-O for holding down the fort so we could get away!

  1. The women in our family had afternoon tea at The St. Regis recently. It was a wonderful experience and I highly recommend it. I’m sure dining and staying there are even more fabulous. Congratulations on your anniversary; wishing you many, many more.
