Magical Monday {Pandora World of Avatar + Movie Night Snacks}

We are so incredibly excited for the grand opening of Pandora World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom on May 27!!  Filled with bioluminescent rainforests, floating mountains and surprising flora, Pandora will invite guests into the most immersive land yet in Disney parks.  Guests can experience new dining and two new attractions: Avatar Flight of Passage where you fly over Pandora on a banshee, and Na’vi River Journey where you take a family-friendly boat ride down a mystical river.  I’ve been following along on social media with all of the annual passholder preview days and truly cannot wait to see it with my own two eyes.

Now, Avatar is one of Honey’s all time favorite movies and he estimates he’s seen it 50 times.  Gulp.  (He’s a night owl.) I, however, had slept through it many times but never actually seen it.  So, over the last week we’ve been getting even more excited about the new land by watching the movie (about 2.5 hours) and noshing on blue snacks.  This is admittedly not my most creative idea, but with the craziness of school wrapping up, I simply shopped for treats in blue wrappers to go along with the movie.  HA!  No matter, all three of the boys have been delighted.

We finished the movie last night and I thought it was REALLY good!!!  We are more excited than ever to explore Pandora and see this movie come to life.

Also, this Wednesday, May 24, Disney’s Animal Kingdom will host a very special dedication moment for this new land and the #DisneyParksLIVE cameras will be there to live stream the amazing moment.  I’ll be tuned in at 9:25 a.m. ET on the Disney Parks Blog to see how it all unfolds!!

  1. Did your boys watch it? I’ve been debating on letting my girls (9 and 7) watch it. They know they’ll be seeing the new land on our next WDW trip, so they want to watch the movie to get ready. I’m on the fence…

    1. I did, at Honey’s assurance it was appropriate. I will say that some of the language (minimal) and violence (not blood and guts, but destruction of nature. No worse than Star Wars.) made me uncomfortable with them watching. There is also one “love” scene. That being said, mine are still happy watching cartoons at home and Disney movies in the car and theater :-). We just haven’t introduced a lot of “real people” movies. For John at 11.5 and going into 6th grade it was fine. For Whit at 8.5 I’m torn. Both really liked it though and I’m certain no long term harm was done. Ha!

      1. Thank you! I feel like my girls could handle most of the “adult” stuff in the movie, but I am a little nervous about the “love scene”. It’s been so long since I’ve seen it and I can’t remember the level of detail involved. Your review makes me feel better about it! We’ve been watching Instastories, SnapChats, and YouTube videos about the grand opening, so maybe we’ll celebrate with the movie tonight! Thank you!! And enjoy Beach Club! That’s where we stay every year, and we just live the pool and convenience to EPCOT!
