Summer Fun {How to Make BIG Bubbles}

Both of the boys have “dreams” of becoming professional “youtubers” and have been interested in my video segments on the blog.  Now, my content is certainly NOT what they plan to share one day (far far away) but it got us talking one night and we collectively came up with the idea to have them help me plan, film and edit a series of Summer Fun videos for the blog in lieu of our usual summer bucket list.  Since we were gone last week and I’ve been crazy between swim team, lacrosse, planning to leave town again and following up on job leads, we decided to kick things off with a video we filmed last summer but never posted.

I first shared our infatuation with BIG bubbles SIX years ago.  A lot has changed since then.  Those were the days of endless summers and toothless smiles and playing in the driveway without even worrying about having on pants.

But, as much as some things change, many stay the same.  We can still find pleasure in simple things like mixing up a batch of BIG bubbles.  We even took it to the beach with us last summer and the cousins had so much fun down on the North end of Tybee at sunset making bubbles!

1 part liquid dish soap (I used Palmolive only because it’s what I had on hand.)
1/4 part light corn syrup
8 parts water

 We mixed up the above recipe with 1 cup of the dish soap (and the resulting 1/4 c corn syrup and 8 c water) and it was plenty for an entire weekend worth of bubble fun.  The mix, costing just pennies to make, SURE beats the pricey stuff at the store that tends to stain our clothes before it inevitably gets dumped out on the ground.

I hope we can stick with our plan for this series because they’ve come up with some cute ideas on how to have fun at home this summer!

  1. I can’t wait to see the rest of the summer video series, how fun! I am also excited to try your homemade, i.e. always better, bubble recipe! Your post, of course, made me very curious as to your upcoming travel and a new job? What?! Looking forward to learning more, thanks for letting me follow along ?

  2. How funny because my younger son wants to be a “professional You-Tuber” as well! Boys! You and your kids are so cute. I love how Elsa gets in on the action! Enjoy the rest of your week!

  3. My IPad has a mind of its own today so I’m not sure if you got my message but there’s a big Mickey bubble in your tree photo!!
    :-)

  4. This is so timely! We got the kids a bubble machine this summer and we are already out of the solution it came with and store bought bubbles were way too thin. I am going to give this a whirl. Thanks!

  5. Fun, fun!

    Great idea for the video series! Can’t wait to see what all y’all come up with!
