Eclipse 2017 {4 Free Download Cricut T-Shirt Designs}

I don’t know about y’all but our family is SO excited for the big eclipse coming in just 8 days!  We made plans with bestie M months ago to head up to a lake in North Georgia in the path of totality.  She ordered our glasses back when we first started planning and we had a crafternoon yesterday to make shirts for our crew.

Most of y’all know that I got a Cricut machine early in the summer.  I’ve used it here and there but quickly figured out that I LOVE designing shirts and M LOVES making them.  So my machine doesn’t get all that much use :-)  Shhh… don’t tell Honey.

I created these four original designs and wanted to share them with all of my crafter followers!!

You can right click on the images to save them and them import them into your Cricut or Silhouette (I assume it is the same) software.  I have created a separate file for each layer.

Shirt 1: Dark Times Death Star

the Death Star is a print then cut layer and the Dark Times is just a cut layer

Pink Floyd Eclipse Lyrics

The moon was done in gold foil and the words in white; They are both cut layers

Totality Awesome

The moon was done in gold foil and the words in white; They are both cut layers

Totality was Totally Worth It

I originally designed thinking we would do a combo of gold and white but we ended up doing both layers in gold holographic vinyl; They are both cut layers

Tips for Cricut Cutting Files

A few tips for the Cricut:

  • You will want to right click on these pics and save as PNG or JPG files.
  • Go to upload files in the design space to use these.
  • Choose the Cut versions of these (not print then cut) when saving.

Tools I Use

  • I have the Cricut Explore Air 2 and really like it.  Once upon a time I had the first iteration of a Silhouette and they have come so far since then.
  • Mother and Daddy-O gave me the Cricut Easy Press for Christmas and it has been so nice and convenient.  I love that is is small and easy to store.  It seems to adhere the vinyl to the shirts so much better than the iron does.  I need to get a heat safe mat to put down under it because it really only works on a solid flat surface, not on the ironing board.
  • I like the  Siser Easy Weed Heat Transfer Vinyl for iron on projects.

Now, if you don’t want to make these yourself, you might check with Tricia at HKL Designs (sooner rather than later).  We spoke about it this afternoon and I sent her all of the files already.

I hope y’all have a wonderful week ahead and I would LOVE to know your plans for the eclipse!!!

  1. Our plans are to go to the cabin – we’ll be just a few minutes across the North Carolina border. I remember the eclipse when I was in elementary school. We were as excited then as they are now, but lucky them – their classes are cancelled for the 21st!

The shirt designs are perfect! Enjoy!

  2. I’m a little confused. You say you used vinyl for the cut designs. The only vinyl I’m familiar with for my Silhouette is adhesive vinyl. How will you wash the shirts if this is what you used? It sticks to washable objects like cups, but I’m not so sure about using it for shirts. Please advise – thank you!

    1. It is iron on heat transfer vinyl and will wash. I am still learning a lot but have used the Siser brand (found online or from Michaels).

      1. Thank you so much! I didn’t even know this existed. This might just change my life! Too late to order for the eclipse, but you bet I’ll be using it in the future! Thank you again! Enjoy the eclipse!
