A Quick Girls “Getaway” at the St. Regis Atlanta

My little group of three college besties have a long standing tradition of taking a getaway every year.  We all live in different parts of Atlanta and the nine kids between us make it hard to get out of town these days.  This year we did a fun-filled 24-hours in town, calling the St. Regis Atlanta our home base for the night.

We arrived well before check-in and headed off to a perennial favorite, Houston’s, for lunch.  I have so many memories of my parents taking me here from college on.  The last time I dined at Houston’s with Daddy-O was the evening CeeCee was born!  He always sent me home with a to-go order of the delicious spinach artichoke dip, and that night was no exception.

After lunch we spent a couple of hours at the Natural Body Spa.  We all love this place, having tried many spas between the four of us.

Back at the hotel, we relaxed and chatted in the room.  Sadly, it was too cool to enjoy their amazing pool!  The rooms at the St. Regis are huge and luxurious.  This is the two queen room, but I have a few pictures of the king and bathrooms over in this post.

At six o’clock every evening, the St. Regis welcomes new guests at the champagne sabering!  I tell everyone that I send here to be sure to attend. You will learn that the ritual started when John Jacob Astor IV founded the first St. Regis Hotel in New York, circa 1904.  Apparently his mother’s afternoon tea included a sabering of the champagne each day as well.  Today, every St. Regis in the world continues the tradition, sabering the very champagne – Monopole Blue Top – that Astor last sipped the evening that he died on the Titanic.

With some time before dinner, we popped into the St. Regis Bar for cocktails and appetizers.   And lots of laughs, catching up and even a few tears.  (love you girls!)

Atlanta has an excellent restaurant scene, but we stayed right at the St. Regis and dined at Atlas.   A couple of us had been before and really enjoyed it.  This night was no exception.  I love how slow they are here – you really get to enjoy your meal and not feel rushed at all.

We returned to our room for a late night snack.

As always, it was a wonderful visit with these three girls that I’ve known since I was eighteen.  It’s hard to believe it’s been twenty-four years.  <3

I am frequently asked where to stay in Atlanta.  That answer, of course, depends on what is bringing you to the city.  But, hands down my number one recommendation is the St. Regis for luxury, service and convenience.  I have also recommended the Ritz Buckhead numerous times but it recently changed hands (now The Whitley) and I have not personally stayed there.  If you want to read more about the St. Regis, see our 15 year anniversary stay here and ice skating at Astor Ice Rink here.

I hope you have a beautiful and blessed Easter tomorrow!

  1. What a blessing to have friends that stand the test of time, and a tradition to go along with it. Happy Easter weekend, friend. xo
