Deck the Halls 2018 {Kitchen} + Lynch Creek Farm Giveaway

12/5: This giveaway is now closed.  Congratulations to Sue who wrote “I am a follower on Dixie Travels, and as much as I would love this pretty centerpiece, if I won the centerpiece I would have it sent to my mother in law. She just moved and I imagine she is not doing a lot of Christmas decorating. This would be so pretty on her dining table and give her a spot of Christmas cheer.”  An email address for you didn’t come through so please email me ASAP ([email protected]) with your shipping address so that I can hook you up with timely delivery of your centerpiece.

My Deck the Halls Christmas home tour continues today in the kitchen.   We spend more time in here than in any other room of the house so I love to make it merry and festive with greenery, ribbons, a coffee and cocoa bar, and our Christmas china.  And, like in year’s past, keep reading to the end for your chance to win this lovely live centerpiece from Lynch Creek Farm!

Sometimes I get a complex that the rest of blog land is full of beautiful bright, white kitchens.  But I do love mine.  It is hard to believe this kitchen is ten years old – it was the one truly updated room in the house when we moved in.

Like in the rest of our living spaces, I love to frame pictures of the boys from Christmases past, keep little bowls of candy and treats around, and replace my everyday decor with holiday items.  The Christmas countdown was a gift from bestie M last year.  I can’t believe we’ve been 13 Christmases without one!  I store all of our holiday decor in large plastic tubs in the basement and attic.  When I take the Christmas things out, I fill them back up with everyday things that I won’t be using.  It would be WAY to much stuff to have it all out.

Our coffee station is more merrier than ever this time of the year with hot chocolate pods, candy canes, marshmallows, dark chocolate chips and pirouettes to stir in.  Goodness knows, it’s already been cold enough to indulge this season.

I use the island space more than any other in the kitchen, so the little gingerbread house often moves to make space for dinner prep.

I keep these jars (Target) out from Halloween through Christmas with seasonal snacks.  At Christmas I love to have a naughty and a nice choice.  One of my favorite naughty treats are the Candy Cane Jo Jos from Trader Joes.  They taste just like a thin mint.  mmmm…..

I keep this mini tree filled with Spode Christmas Tree ornaments in my kitchen every year.  In fact, this is the 16th year we’ve used this exact tree!  Most of the ornaments were given to us at a wedding shower.  My Happy Everything plate gets a cute elf topper for the holidays.

Looking in the opposite direction, you can get a peek of the mudroom, dining room and kitchen dining space.

I have replaced all of our everyday china with our Christmas china.  The pattern is the classic Spode Christmas Tree.  Most of our collection was given to us when we were getting married, but Mother and Daddy-O usually add a serving piece for us each year.

Sister scored the Letters from Santa box for herself, our mom and me last Christmas from the Magnolia home line at Target.  It is really heavy and well made.  Her kids love writing letters to Santa throughout the season, which is so sweet.  Mine do not.  :-(

You might have noticed that I’ve done a little updating in my breakfast nook over the course of the last year.  I swapped out the picture for a mirror and added an upholstered bench in place of the original French country-esque one.  Oh, and I changed the orientation of the table as well while I continue to hunt for one that fits the space better.  Bestie C’s mom found this table for my apartment in an antique store TWENTY years ago!

I didn’t hang the greenery in our chandelier this year like I normally do, and I am loving how much brighter the kitchen is staying without it.  I did put a wreath on the new mirror, and tucked Scout our elf inside.  I was thinking (hoping… praying….) that we were done with the elf, but when Whit spied him his face lit up and he was so excited.  I spun yet another elf lie and told him that he won’t come to life and start on Santa reports until December 1.  With our NYC trip over Thanksgiving and my first day on the holiday home tour being just a couple of days after we returned, I started putting Christmas up November 10.  There was NO way I could do the elf from then to December 25.

The mirror and chandelier are both from Ballard Designs.  I’ve had the chandelier for 10 years but it is still current.  The cute ribbon was Michael’s last year.  The plates are Alison Evans.  The plaid pillows were from Homegoods a few years ago, and the little one in the middle was Pottery Barn last year. I bought it to go in John’s room after Christmas but liked it better in here.

The vintage piece that is folded over the back of the settee is actually my Grandma-O’s Christmas table cloth.  Mother cleaned it up and gave it to me this year.  It doesn’t fit my table and I almost hate to use it like that anyway.  I’m considering having her cut it into pillows for me.  But, until I decide, I am loving seeing it here in my kitchen every single day.

As mentioned, Lynch Creek Farm has been a gracious sponsor of our home tour and provided each stop with an item of their choice to use in their decor!  This year they have offered up a giveaway for EACH of us to use with our readers.  I will be giving away the Mountain Vineyard Centerpiece that I’m using on my kitchen table.  I have had wreathes from Lynch Creek Farm the past two years and can attest to the fact that they are very full and well made, and they last a long time with proper care.  I immediately fell in love with the centerpiece and am so glad that I chose it this year.  You can’t go wrong with greenery, pinecones and plaid.  Besides, it makes setting any table SO easy!

To ensure that the winner has time to enjoy their centerpiece, this giveaway will run through Sunday and I will choose a winner Monday.  There are FIVE ways to enter.  Please leave a separate comment for each of these entry items for the best chance at winning:

  4. Snowberry glow is my fav Lynch Creek Farm centerpiece. It would fit in perfectly with my Christmas decor. Thanks for the chance to win!

  5. I’d love to have a Country Christmas wreath on each window but with 11 windows across the front of my house, I don’t think my husband would think it’s as wonderful an idea as I do.

  6. I’m an IG follower of Dixie Travels. My grands have been to DW 3x this year and I’ve tagged their mama each time.

  11. Amanda, I haven’t commented in awhile…been reading but very busy:)
I just had to comment today because I adore your home. IT is precious. I am so relieved when I stop by a blog and it DOESN’T have an all white kitchen. I am sure the brightness is pretty in real life, but yours is so pretty. I think a kitchen needs a bit of warmth and coziness and yours has it in spades.
I like lighting without the greenery and that tablecloth draped across the settee is perfect.

  12. My favorite from Lynch Creek Farms is their Country Christmas Wreath. They have so many gorgeous items it is hard to choose!
