Coastal Christmas {DIY Oyster Nativity}

After seeing the sweetest coastal manger scene at a friend’s house last week, I was inspired to create these beautiful nativity canvases in a crafter-noon with Mother and Sister. It was the perfect way to spend a few hours on Christmas Eve – listening to Christmas music, sipping hot apple cider and snacking on Daddy-O’s chex mix.

Mother already had every single thing we needed on hand. We scoured her craft closet for canvases and paints, and then went through her stash of collected oyster shells to each find the ones that spoke to us. I love that each one turned out differently, even through we worked on them side by side.

DIY Oyster Shell Nativity

You’ll need:

  • Small canvas – ours are about 8×10″
  • Dark blue paint
  • Gold paint
  • Brushes
  • 3 oyster shells
  • Hot glue

Paint the canvas in dark blue. While that dries, paint the edges of the shells in gold if desired. Once everything is dry, glue on the shells. Add the hay and stars with gold paint.

It was really easy and something all of us are so excited to add to our Christmas decor.

I hope that you enjoyed a wonderful Christmas Eve and are looking forward to a very merry Christmas day ahead. <3

  1. What a lovely idea! We have an annual beach trip (before pandemic life) and this would be a great gift for the ladies who go on the trip!
