I nearly forgot about this recipe. It has been years since I’ve made chocolate peanut butter bars, but I came across it again when flipping though my Cherokee Entertains cookbook looking for something else.
Not to brag, but I am a bit of a peanut butter connoisseur. LOL. No, seriously, I like my chocolate and peanut butter just so. And this recipe is perfect. Hence, why I have dubbed it The Best.
Chocolate Peanut Butter Bars aka Homemade Reese’s Cups
You’ll need:
- 1.5 cups graham cracker crumbs
- 1 cup butter, melted, divided
- 1 16-oz box confectioners sugar
- 1.5 cups peanut butter
- 6-oz semi sweet chocolate chips
Mix together crumbs, 3/4 cup melted butter, sugar and peanut butter. Line a 13×9″ pan with waxed paper or parchment. Pat mixture firmly into lined pan, getting it as even as possible. Watch the edges!
Melt chocolate chips and remaining 1/4 cup butter over low heat. Spread evenly over peanut butter mixture. Since it is Valentine’s, I also topped mine with Dove dark chocolate hearts where I would later cut into bars.
Cool in fridge. When ready to cut, lift out of pan by waxed paper. I only cool mine enough to set the chocolate. Otherwise they are REALLY hard to cut.
I made these Tuesday and there isn’t one scrap left. In all fairness, both kids had friends over that enjoyed them for a treat, and I also gave a few away. It definitely makes enough to share. I find that these Dove hearts can make any standard dessert look like a Valentine’s sweet. Rice krispie treats, cupcakes, brownies, cookies, etc.
I hope y’all enjoy a lovely weekend! We have lots and lots of practices ahead.

Yum, yum! I have everything on hand for these – everyone here will be excited for the sweet treat! xo
I hope they love it. Ironically, I had everything too. 😳😉
These would never last in my house. Whenever I make chocolate peanut butter balls, we devour them all the first day. These look incredible…

Yum! I used to make those but these are even easier because you just spread in a pan!
They are soooo good. We prefer milk chocolate chips…tastes more like the candy.
When I was growing up, the school cafeteria had peanut butter bars that were so so good! Everyone clamored to get them. My mom actually worked at the school and was able to get the recipe. It is very similar to yours, but no graham crackers in the base – just peanut butter, powdered sugar, brown sugar, butter and vanilla. The topping is the exact same. Such good memories of coming home to school and finding that mom had made a batch for us! And, I did the same when my kids were growing up!
