On My Bedside {Alaskan Holiday}

I know the world has moved on to all things Spring, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t share Alaskan Holiday and, really, my love of all Debbie Macomber Christmas books.

I picked this one up at Mother’s house over Christmas and read it in the week between Christmas and New Years. I particularly loved it because we are headed to Alaska this summer! The story was charming, and I loved the picture she painted of the Alaskan wilderness and those that live there. Compared to her other holiday stories, this wasn’t the very best, but it resonated with me at the time that I read it.

Before beginning her dream job as sous chef in one of Seattle’s hottest new restaurants, Josie Avery takes a summer position cooking at a lakeside lodge in the remote Alaskan town of Ponder. Josie falls for the rustic charms of the local community—including Jack Corcoran, the crotchety keeper of Ponder’s famed sourdough starter, and, in particular, the quiet and intense Palmer Saxon, a famed master swordsmith.

Josie and Palmer become close during the long Alaskan summer days, but Josie knows that, come fall, she’ll be returning to reality and the career she’s worked so hard for. Palmer, on the other hand, would like nothing better than to make Josie his wife and to keep her in Ponder. But Josie can’t imagine abandoning her mother back in the Emerald City and sacrificing her career to stay in this isolated town—not even for a man she’s quickly coming to love.

Fate has other plans. Josie misses the last boat out of town before winter sets in, stranding her in Ponder and putting her dream job at risk. As the holidays approach, Josie and Palmer must grapple with the complications that arise when dreams confront reality, and the Christmas magic that can happen when they put their faith in love.

For me, Debbie Macomber Christmas stories are like winter beach reads – easy, nice and uplifting. I have a few other books to update y’all on and am currently seeking recommendations for spring break! Share what’s on your bedside…

  1. Just finished Juror #3 by James Patterson (meh!), and getting ready to start Verity by Colleen Hoover. Apparently Verity is pretty twisted and unlike her other stories. In fact, I heard her regular publisher didn’t publish it. Can’t wait to hear what others are recommending.

  2. I like the occasional Debbie Macomber read too. Easy, nothing scary, nice to know everything will turn out right in the end. Sorta like the Hallmark channel. Hope you enjoy the blue skies today.
