Why Disneyland? {My Top 10 Reasons to Visit Disneyland}

We’ve reached that point in the year where I’m seeing an influx of consultations to travel to Disney World and on Disney Cruise Line for the 2019 holiday season. While both are completely do-able, a Disneyland vacation is also a fantastic choice that doesn’t require six months advance notice to get the sought after dining, attractions and experiences. This is true both for the holiday season and all year long!

Heritage and History

For true Disney lovers, Disneyland is the original park. It is full of heritage and history. You can walk the streets that Walt walked and marvel at how his dream became a reality. There’s really nothing like walking in Disneyland for the first time and soaking all of that in.

It is Immersive

At Disneyland, you stay right in the middle of the magic. Once you are inside the gates at Downtown Disney, you handily hop between Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. There are no busses, taxis, minivans, boats, or monorails. You are immersed in the magic!

Disneyland is a Pedestrian Destination

As hinted above, you walk everywhere at Disneyland. Staying on-site, particularly at the Disneyland Hotel or Grand Californian, literally puts you within steps of the theme parks. You want to go swim or nap for two hours? No problem … it only takes a few minutes to get “home” as opposed to taking an hour on each end to get to and from the parks. The Grand Californian even has an entrance directly into California Adventure!

Cars Land

The Cars movies and characters are favorites for young, old, boys and girls. And, stepping into Cars Land is like stepping into your favorite movie. The land will have your jaw on the floor and is absolutely phenomenal, from the rides to the music to the food to the actual CARS that drive down the street.

Guardians of the Galaxy

Any super hero fans out there?! Disneyland has a lot more liberty with attractions and characters on the West coast. The Guardians of the Galaxy ride was wonderful and so much fun for the older kids in your crew!

Unique Attractions and Entertainment

While some rides are similar from coast to coast, Disneyland is full of unique and different shows, experiences, parades and attractions in both parks.

Holidays and Seasonal Events

I had the pleasure of being in Disneyland at the start of the Christmas season last year and it was magical! Not only are the decorations wonderful, but the holiday food offerings and overlays on rides like Haunted Mansion and It’s a Small World are fantastic! Disneyland has it’s own Food & Wine, Halloween and Holiday events that are unique and different from over in Walt Disney World.

MaxPass

MaxPass is Disneyland’s version of FastPass, if you’re familiar with how that works in Walt Disney World. Except… it is SO much better! It is purchased as an add on to your theme park ticket and let’s you secure return times for attractions while IN the park. No 60-day advance planning to only choose three needed! Since the parks are so close together, and don’t require going through security every time you hop, it is easy to be in Disneyland and decide to pick up a FastPass for Incredicoaster in California Adventure!

The Weather

There’s really no bad time, weather-wise, to go to Disneyland.

Extra Magic Hour and Early Mornings

Every day of your stay, you get into a park one hour early like at Disney World BUT there are only three on-site hotels. For Disneyland, off-site guests with a 3-day or longer ticket get admission to Disneyland one morning during their stay. Only the three onsite Disneyland hotels get into Disney California Adventure early. It makes a huge difference and you can accomplish a lot during that hour.

  1. I’m taking my 20 month old granddaughter for her first Disneyland visit in 11 days. I can’t wait to see her reactions. Hopefully it is the beginning of a life long love of all things Disney.

    1. I just love that. I hope you have a wonderful first trip! I know they don’t remember it that young, but we do!
