Holiday Home Tour 2019 {Kitchen, Mudroom & Powder Room}

Like most of you, the kitchen is the heart of our home. We spend more time in here than in any other room of the house so I love to make it merry and festive with greenery, ribbons, a coffee and cocoa bar, and our Christmas china.

I am so, so in love with the renovation we did this summer to level out the island and peninsula and brighten up the cabinets and backsplash. Just look at this view from the sofa in the den!

And from the kitchen into the den.

Like in the rest of our living spaces, I love to frame pictures of our family from Christmases past, keep little bowls of candy and treats around, and replace my everyday decor with holiday items.  I store all of our holiday decor in large plastic tubs in the basement and attic.  When I take the Christmas things out, I fill them back up with everyday things that I won’t be using.  It would be WAY to much stuff to have it all out.

Our coffee station is more merrier than ever this time of the year with a variety of seasonal coffees, hot chocolate pods and candy canes for stirring.

I use the island space more than any other in the kitchen, so the little tree is perfect to still have room for dinner prep and all the other activities that happen here. I have replaced all of our everyday china with our Christmas china.  The pattern is the classic Spode Christmas Tree.  Most of our collection was given to us when we were getting married, but Mother and Daddy-O usually add a serving piece for us each year.

Over in the dining area, the mirror and chandelier are both from Ballard Designs.  I’ve had the chandelier for 10 years but it is still current.  The oyster plates are Alison Evans.  The plaid pillows were from Homegoods a few years ago, and the little one in the middle was Pottery Barn a couple of years ago. The vintage piece that is folded over the back of the settee is actually my Grandma-O’s Christmas table cloth.  Mother cleaned it up and gave it to me last year.  It doesn’t fit my table and I almost hate to use it like that anyway.

I added the Elf door hanger to the garage door this year and it is pretty merry to come home to since this is our most used entryway. The JOY boxwood garland was from Target after Christmas last year. I used to sell pet bowls in my shop and these are Elsa’s from her first Christmas.

Finally, a quick peek at the powder room. Some holiday soaps, guest towels and red roses keep things easily festive.

Thank you so much for all of your sweet comments on our holiday home! I sincerely appreciate each and every one and LOVE sharing our home with you all month long.

  1. I love your kitchen update so much! How have the painted cabinets held up so far? Any chipping or scratching? I want to have ours painted but I’m nervous about how it will hold up over time.

  2. Amanda, your home is still one of my absolute favorites. Classic never goes out of style —EVER. I love the flat island. Mine is the workhorse of my kitchen. Now, I will freely admit I have trouble keeping myself from dropping things off there. We don’t really have a very good drop off location before you get to it and it is my eternal problem. That is one of my goals for the new year to create a new drop off place and get in the habit using it.
    Everything is just lovely!

  3. Your home is so beautifully decorated – as expected! I look forward to your Christmas tours each year. You always pay attention to every detail and your kitchen is absolutely stunning. It was beautiful to begin with but the makeover just put it over the top. Love, love, love it all!
    Cheers!
    Shelley

  4. Your plaid mug & plates with monograms are to die for. And even the dog has monogrammed bowls & mat. You are a gal after my own Southern heart!!!!

  5. Every year I love to see your beautiful home decked out for the holidays. Thank tou for sharing it and enjoy your Disney trip!

  6. This is simply gorgeous!! 🌲🔔📯🌲 I love every single detail, especially how you displayed your beloved grandmother’s tablecloth. ❤❤ Enjoy your weekend!

  7. Spode just speaks to my heart…so classic and always in style! I love changing from my everyday to Christmas china for the entire month of December. I, too, add a serving piece each year…this year..Naughty and Nice dip bowls! I also like the reminder of your grandmother lingering in the background….beautiful tribute!
