Alabama to Louisiana Road Trip {Birmingham: Grand Bohemian & Habitat Feed and Social}

We broke the boys out of school a couple of hours early to somewhat beat the Friday / holiday weekend rush out of Atlanta. The first stop on our Alabama to New Orleans road trip was Valentine’s Day at the Grand Bohemian in the Mountain Brook area of Birmingham.

Grand Bohemian Birmingham

Arriving at the Grand Bohemian was a great kickoff to our trip! The hotel was quirky and fun and we knew we’d have a great stay.

We were greeted with champagne and chocolate!

The rooms are spacious and well appointed and we very comfortably made this home for the night. The artwork all over the hotel was cheerful and inspiring!

Habitat Feed & Social

It was a chilly night, but our first stop was the rooftop area of Habitat Feed & Social. It was a lovely spot to watch the sunset by the fire. I can imagine spring and fall nights are just wonderful here!

We warmed up by the huge fire inside. The males in the family all enjoyed a game of pool. You know, something they never do at home. Ha!

The boys were ready to stare at their devices so Honey and I enjoyed a cocktail in the lounge.

Back at the room, we ordered the boys the most expensive burgers known to man from room service. They lived their very best life, dining in bed while eating cheeseburgers. When I asked if this is what their Valentine’s dreams were made of they both agreed.

Meanwhile, Honey and I enjoyed a lovely four course meal back upstairs at Habitat. We don’t always dine out on Valentine’s Day, so this was a fun treat! Everything was delicious and wonderfully prepared.

We had a great, albeit brief stay, and are headed further South today! Stay tuned!

  1. In your recent story post you mentioned an app you used for food and activity suggestions. What was the name of that app? Thank you. LOVE your blogs. Miriam in Texas

    1. Hi Miriam – The Roadside America app? It’s really just to find quirky things off the beaten path. Yesterday we found a giant Tin Man made from scrap – turns out we are related to the artist! I prefer Yelp for dining and Viator for tours!

  2. Amanda,

    Thank you for sharing! My husband and I desire a trip to all the old plantations in the south one day soon. We are almost empty nesters. We dream of getting in our car for a long weekend to explore the roots of the south. I have Revolutionary roots, too. My mother was a member of the Eastern Star organization, and my hope is to get involved one day to follow in her footsteps.

    I love your blog!
    Betty Lou
