Daily Delight {Shamrock Soft Pretzels}

My kids love semi-homemade soft pretzels (meaning from a box, not frozen). These are definitely in the rare treat category, with the prep and rise time involved. I’ve enjoyed getting creative with them for different holidays and particularly love these shamrock soft pretzels!

You can watch the whole thing in action in this quick 3 minute video. Spoiler alert: It is not nearly as cute, professional or well done at Tasty. :-)

Shamrock Soft Pretzels Instructions

If you prefer written instructions, I’ve got you covered!

You will want to follow all of the directions on the box, up to the point when you go to twist the pretzel dough.

Forming the Shamrock Pretzel

This is easier than making a pretzel shape!

  1. My box said to divide the dough into 9 pieces. I divided it into four. Use your hands to roll out each piece into a 24″ strip. I keep this ruler in my kitchen tool drawer.
  2. Start with the stem of the shamrock. Pull the strip up and loop it around to the left, down and back across.
  3. Add a second loop going up, around to the left and down.
  4. Make the third loop going up and around to the left. Tuck the end between the pretzel dough layers.

The Green Salt

Figuring my shamrock pretzels needed a little something green, I placed the salt that came in the kit in a small zip top bag. I added two drops of liquid green food coloring and shook it around to evenly coat everything. (Note: One drop would have been plenty) I then sprinkled the green salt on the pretzels, to the demise of my hands. This was AFTER washing. Haha!

Baking the Pretzels

With the pretzels formed, pick back up with the box instructions. Mine have you boil water and baking soda, dip each one in for 15 seconds and place on a pan. I baked per the box directions, going with the upper end of the baking time since mine were larger. They turned out perfectly!

As far as sources go, I’ve had the green mason jars from a collaboration with Ball years ago. The orange straws came out of a set from my stash. The runner is a roll of wrapping paper from Party City. The plates are years old from WalMart. The platter and attachment are Happy Everything by Coton Colors.
