My Favorite Kind of Magic Kingdom Morning

I think it will come as no surprise that my very favorite theme park anywhere is Magic Kingdom. Walking in here never gets old. What may come as a surprise is that my favorite kind of Magic Kingdom morning does not involve racing to Seven Dwarfs Mine Train or rushing to the be the first one to get a picture in front of the castle. Rather, it is a laid back, soak in the magic kind of experience that doesn’t require any hustle, bustle, lines, FastPasses, or strategic plan.

The ideal day starts with arriving via monorail. There’s nothing like soaring into the magic from the Highway in the Sky. You get sweeping views of the “OG” Disney World – the resorts, the Seven Seas Lagoon, Main Street USA and maybe, just maybe, a peek at Cinderella Castle.

Once inside the turnstile, I stop and take pictures with and of the Magic Kingdom train station.

Take time when you walk through the tunnel to see the attraction posters and the sign.

Here you leave today and enter the world of yesterday, tomorrow and fantasy.

My first stop is always up the stairs of the train station for this. The most magical view in all of Disney World. Take it all in – the people, the music, the scents, the landscaping, Main Street, the castle, the flag.

Head back down and catch a ride on one of the Main Street vehicles. I still remember doing this as a child with my own family.

On this leisurely drive down Main Street USA, you feel a world away from the people racing around you.

You will disembark at the Castle where, of course, a few photos of the most iconic site in Walt Disney World are necessary! The Castle is quite beautiful when you take time to see all of the details!

Now backtrack to Starbucks, where you will likely find a line, being sure to stop for a full performance of the Dapper Dans!

Drink in hand, head to a yellow striped umbrella at the end of Main Street to sit back, relax, people watch and enjoy.

Alternatively, grab a giant Mickey donut and enjoy it right on the grass in the plaza garden instead.

Listen out for the Trolley Show and be sure to see that in its entirety as well!

It’s time to head deeper into the parks! You may catch the characters in the stage show.

Then, head over the bridge into Tomorrowland. Be sure to look back for this photo, or even take the path back to the wishing well.

My top two favorite attractions in Magic Kingdom are right here in Tomorrowland! Do a spin through the Carousel of Progress, followed by a ride on the People Mover. You’ll be singing “there’s a great big beautiful tomorrow” for the rest of the day.”

Fantasyland attractions are great but by this time will have long lines. Just stroll through and admire all of the details.

Back at Gaston’s Tavern, a mid morning protein box and LeFou’s Brew hits the spot.

Cross through Liberty Square for a ride on the Liberty Belle Riverboat. Most guests don’t make time for this, but its a quintessential and nostalgic Disney experience.

I know the rides are what bring most people to Disney initially, but I always encourage my clients to allow a free morning to experience Magic Kingdom just like this. I feel like this is the way Walt had hoped we would enjoy his parks. <3

On their return, I always ask my clients to share their favorite memory from or part of their trip. And, you know what?! Not ONE has ever said Mine Train or Slinky Dog. They always come back with something like “when we ran into Peter Pan in Fantasyland and he stopped to talk to my son” or “when my daughter picked out a giant Mickey balloon on Main street” or “when my husband and I sat in the plaza garden and had our coffee!”

I hope this brought a little piece of magic to your Monday morning!

  1. The view from the train station is perfect! I had never been up there until my daughter’s high school band marched right down Main Street; we watched from that exact spot!
You planned an adults only weekend for us a couple of years ago. It took a bit of coaxing to keep my husband from racing to ride after ride, but now he would agree some of the best parts of our trip were the times we spent sipping a drink and people watching in spots such as the World Showcase, the Polynesian, and on the Boardwalk. :)

    1. I am planning a honeymoon for us 50-something “kids”. My fiance has never been to Disney so when I think of what I want him to see first is definitely not the rides. It is the EXACT morning you just described! Want to go back to freshen up, early dinner, (Contemporary Hotel at sunset???) then back for the night. Rides, fireworks, and trying to be the last ones in the park!

  2. I never knew about the view from the train station! I love Carousel of Progress too! Another highlight was randomly meeting you on one of our Disney trips. :)

  3. This did bring a little piece of magic to my morning! Just soaking in the all the sights and sounds is the best way to start the day at the Magic Kingdom! We visit Disney World about every 1-2 years and have come to love the atmosphere every bit as much as all the wonderful attractions. Thanks for sharing.

  4. This was so great! Thank you for sharing it. I agree, I think this is exactly how Walt wanted people to enjoy it. Taking in all the details and magic.

  5. Amanda, this is one of my favorite posts on your blog, ever! I could really feel your love for this place. My family has a WDW trip planned at the end of summer, as you well know, and with all the changes happening at the parks, it has been easy to get stressed about it all. This post has helped me to relax and just look forward to the magic. Maybe it’s an opportunity to slow down and just soak it all in!
