Celebrating Christmas 2020 {Finals Week Fun Food}

Finals week fun? Is there really such a thing? Well, I did my best to make it one in this unusual year! Both the boys were back to virtual for the last week of the semester and, as challenging as that was, I made use of the time to keep things light, bright and Christmassy. And, by now I’ve learned the way to male species heart – no matter how young or old – is thorough their stomach.

I am an early riser and used that time this week to put together favorite breakfasts before everyone got rolling with their days. Once I head to my office the time seems to go at warp speed. I picked up favorite doughnut boys from our favorite bakery…

… made banana bread in a festive pan. (Williams Sonoma)

… and made boxed chocolate chip muffins in Mickey ramekins! (a gift, but also Williams Sonoma) Clearly we’re staying on our “elf diet” of candy, candy canes, candy corns and syrup until we bid farewell to 2020. (I DO prepare salads for lunch and healthy dinners, but those aren’t so much fun to share this time of year.)

While at the bakery, I picked up John’s all time favorite cookie – the gingerbread man for a class break.

And, of course, we had our Cookie Exchange at home.

These two combinations were big hits in the savory snack department. Whit said “this cheese tastes delicious and expensive”. He was pleased to know it was a BOGO at Publix. :-)

In the entertainment department, we had three nights of mini activities, so as to not distract from school work and studying. A Santa drive by…

… live streaming the Voices of Liberty holiday show from Disney World

… and a reading of The Grinch by Little CeeCee Lou Who!!

The grades are in and we are so very proud of both of our boys. While there were bumps in the road, they navigated 2020 with patience, open mindedness, determination and a whole lot of laughter and love.

  1. What a fun week! Where did did you get the doughnut man? I am in the ATL area and hope the bakery has a store near us. A treat for the grands.

  2. You have a knack for knowing just how to celebrate! What a fun and festive way to send out this semester! xo
