Celebrating Christmas 2020 {Sister’s Annual Gingerbread Soiree + Christmas Eve Traditions}

We kicked this Christmas Eve off on a sugar high, with Sister’s annual gingerbread house soiree for the cousins. She provided Oreo houses this year, which were a huge hit for everyone. They were so much tastier than gingerbread! Who knew?!

Everyone put a lot of thought and effort into their creations this year. It’s crazy to think what sort of things they used to turn out when we first started this. John coined the “candy junkyard” way back when and it’s still a favorite for this crew. You basically throw down a bunch of icing out back and then pile on the candy for eating later.

From left to right: John, Whit, Jay, CeeCee. All are darling. We didn’t even attempt to pick a favorite! I had a bunch of leftover cookies from our “cookie exchange” and they made for such cute additions to the houses this year.

Of course, everything at Sister’s house is perfectly done. Especially her Elf on the Shelf :-) I sure hope Santa doesn’t accidently scoop this one up in his sleigh tonight.

After the party, we adjourned to my parent’s house!!! We did the usual non-stop feeding of someone, watching of Christmas movies and the likes.

After the kids had set out their Coke and cookies for Santa, the adult party was on! This is honestly one of my most favorite parts of Christmas each year. Mother set out a charcuterie and hosted a fun game, Daddy-O mixed up eggnog cocktails and broke out the “21 year old” (scotch), and we wrapped into the wee hours of the morning.

This Christmas felt more special and dear than any in recent memory. I am so incredibly thankful that we could all safely be home, together for Christmas. This was the only thing on my Christmas wish list, and I silently wished for it when my boys were visiting with Santa. I’ve always believed in the magic of Christmas. <3

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!
