Happy Hour {Spicy Fifty}

The Spicy Fifty is a delicious and unusual cocktail that I found through my parent’s wonderful neighbor! She is in a virtual cocktail group and I always love reading about their creations on her social media. This one particularly intrigued me and I had everything on hand to make it outside of the pepper! It gets spicier by the sip and Honey and I both thoroughly enjoyed it.

Master mixologist Salvatore Calabrese created this fine tipple in late 2005 as the signature drink for his new bar “Fifty” in London. An IBA recognized drink the New Era category, this cocktail will surprise and delight you.

Spicy Fifty

Ingredients for one drink:

  • 1 3/4 oz. vanilla vodka
  • 1/2 oz. elderflower liqueur
  • 1/2 oz. fresh lime juice
  • 2 tsp honey syrup
  • 2 thin slices of red chili pepper, seeds removed

Method:

Pour all ingredients, including pepper slices, into a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake for 30 seconds. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a red chili pepper.

Tips:

  • For a spicy cocktail, muddle some cut peppers in with the syrup.
  • I can easily double this recipe for two cocktails in my shaker.

Homemade Honey Syrup

I like to make just a little of my own honey syrups as I typically don’t drink enough of any one cocktail to warrant a full jar of syrup. For this cocktail, I combined 1/8 cup honey and 1/8 cup water in a small pot. I brought to a boil and stirred until completely combined.

Happy weekend, y’all!
