Winter Favorites

I don’t care much for winter, but I do have some favorite warm, cozy items that are staples here this time of year! I share a version of this list each January (just look at some of the old pics!)

Harney & Sons Teas

After having tried boxes upon boxes of grocery and specialty store teas for years, these are my very favorite.  We brew this tea by the pot, drink it hot, and always add sugar.  As I’ve gotten older, I’ve tried to reaallllllyyyy cut back on that part though.  My top three flavors are:

Paris – a fruity black tea with a hint of vanilla and caramel
Hot Cinnamon – three types of cinnamon, orange peel, and sweet cloves
Wedding – white tea with a hint of lemon-vanilla and pink rosebuds

You might try them in the tins first and, if you enjoy, replenish with the bags as they are much cheaper.  (both shown below)

Electric Throw Blanket

This was a Christmas gift from Sister and is still going strong 7ish years later.  It does have a shut off after 3 hours, has 3 heat settings and is machine washable.  While it is washable, the last washing made mine less warm, I think.

Fleece Throw Blanket

These are new this year and everyone LOVES them! I purchased four in the fall, figuring that we would have to continue seeing any friends outside, even as the weather cooled. Well, we haven’t had anyone over to use them outside other than New Years Eve, but they are are in constant use inside! I purchased four in the neutral color. They are warm, snuggly and wash well. They are bulky so could be hard to store if that is of concern. (You can see that for this moment in time they were tucked away in the banquette baskets…. usually they are anywhere but here.)

Heated Mattress Pad

Even more amazing than the heated throw is my heated mattress pad!!  You read that right!  This was my Christmas gift a few years ago and it is the best ever. I can’t tell you how much I love crawling in a warm bed at night.  You can read a lot more about it here.

Ugg Bow Boots

These might in real life be the “ugg-liest” shoes ever created, but they are SOOOO warm! I’ve told the story before on how I finally got a pair, but it’s funny so I’ll share it again. I won a giant Victoria’s Secret gift card at Haven Conference one year.  I spend money on some things but undies is just not one of them.  So I sat on it for days, weeks, months.  Summer went.  Fall came and went.  And then it got cold.  So imagine my supreme surprise and delight when a VS catalog arrived and I was paging through it for some good fleece jammies and I saw that they sold Uggs.  With BOWS!!!  I promptly ordered them up and waited on them to arrive.  Honey got home before me that day and received the GIANT package from VS.  He was grinning like the Cheshire cat when I got home.  “Sooooo, what’d ya get????????????????????”  OMG!!!!!!!!!!!  I think I fell on the floor laughing.  I opened the box and pulled them out as a look of sheer disbelief and horror fell across his face.  “You got boots from VS?  The ugliest boots ever made?”  Yes, yes I did.  And when I slipped my feet into them and headed out to a frigid baseball game all was right in the world.  :-)  They have been my favorite winter boots since that day.

Plush Robe

I’m sure y’all saw the robe Christmas jokes flying around social media back in December. Well, guess what I put under the tree for myself??? A robe!! Haha! In all seriousness I chose a robe and slippers for Honey (he’s home all the time still and we are still wanting to use our outdoors spaces) and decided I needed them too. We’ve both loved them!

Wicked Good Moccasins

I couldn’t get just a robe and not something to keep our feet warm too. These are THE warmest slippers I’ve ever had. Not only did Honey and I get a pair, but John had them on his Christmas list as well. Whit was not interested. (The boys got this version.)

Daybreak Scuffs

Mother and Daddy-O also gave me slippers. These are so cute and comfy!

My Bathtub

I never in a million years dreamed this would go on my list, but here we are.  Haha!  I was never a bath person – likely because mine was navy blue and 40 years old.  But I’ve been converted.  I love the Dr. Teal’s lavender bath salts and bubble bath as well.  See more of my bathroom here.

DoTERRA Oils

I diffuse oils every day! This time of year in my office I typically have an OnGuard blend or Breathe blend. At night I do something with Lavender or Serenity. Honey calls these my snake oils and then hoots and hollers. Every.Single.Day. :-)

What are your winter necessities?  I always love finding little things that feel luxurious in everyday use!

  1. I’ve recently discovered Saranoni blankets. If you have never had one, I highly recommend! I was skeptical that the price difference between it and a $20 target would be justified, but treated myself anyways. They are so incredibly soft and worth every penny. :)

  2. One of my winter must haves is always body oils, salts and scrubs for drier winter skin. My Mom gave me a new set of pjs for Christmas and they are so soft and warm. My sister loves flannel sheets during the colder months but I have never been a fan. They just sleep too hot for me.

  3. Per your recommendation on this blog, I put a cherry pit pac (in the cherry pattern) on my Christmas list and received it. It has been fabulous.

  4. Girl, I bought a heated mattress pad when we moved from Georgia to Seattle after remembering your recommendation. I splurged for the model with dual settings. It is the best money I’ve ever spent… so much so that I bought one for our guest bed so my parents can use it when they visit. And they loved it so much that they bought a third for their house back home in Georgia. You made me look like a genius, so thank you for that. 😄

    1. Yes! That’s how it went down here. First my parents, then us, now in our guest room (which hasn’t seen guests in a year)!!

  5. I love the Harney cinnamon tea; I have a mug every single morning! My friend gifted me a pair of Dudley Stephens fleece fingerless gloves a few years ago. I wear them often inside the house during the winter since we are stingy with our heat, but they are also perfect when I’m outside on those days that aren’t quite cold enough for full gloves.
