Changes in Latitude {Cheeca Lodge Resort & Spa on Islamorada}

We just spent five glorious days at Cheeca Lodge Resort & Spa on Islamorada in the Florida Keys! As you head down the palm lined drive, you can’t help but feel giddy with anticipation.

Changes in Latitude: Fun in the Florida Keys
Islamorada: Celebrating Easter & Pierre’s
Islamorada: From Ocean to Table
Islamorada: Cheeca Lodge Resort & Spa
Islamorada: Island Eats
Key West: Snorkel and Sunset on High Tide
Key West: All the Touristy Things
Key West: Island Eats
Key West: Casa Marina Resort

The first impression of the lodge is WOW! The decor is casually elegant, and the open air lobby gives you a line of sight straight through to the glittering turquoise waters of the Atlantic Ocean.

Mornings were spent watching the sun rise from the shores of the lodge. There is nothing more serene than this. I took a nice long walk around the property and then settled in right here to enjoy my coffee.

The family pool was another turquoise oasis, located just steps from the beach and featuring spectacular views! There were three lagoon style swimming areas, connected with two tiki bars. These pictures were snapped around 8AM, but the pools were hopping by mid morning.

We opted for the convenience of a cabana rental for two full days. Little luxuries like this go so far! We didn’t have to worry about finding chairs or an umbrella and we loved having a private spot to leave our things as we traveled between the pool and loads of included activities. Our cabana, number 1, was the prime location with a gate that stepped out onto the beach.

We didn’t swim at the adult pool, but we did scope it out! It was located more towards the middle of the property and connected to the spa. It stayed nice and quiet all day.

On the other side of the adult pool, accessed by an arch of palm trees, was spa island. It was another beautiful spot!

One thing I just cannot rave enough about is the included activities! We LOVED the unlimited use of bikes, kayaks, stand up paddleboards and fishing equipment. We checked out basketballs, and saw that they also have tennis, pickleball and golf. We each had a wrist band, so the boys could move between activities as they pleased! There were additional watersports and excursions available at a fee, but we had plenty to keep us busy.

I love to find a little history anywhere we go and the Pioneer Cemetery, located right in the middle of the Cheeca Lodge property, was a neat find. It is one of Islamorada’s oldest historical landmarks and the final resting place of the island’s founding families.

There are three on-site restaurants, in addition to the two tiki bars. We enjoyed lunches here, but wandered out for dinners. I’ll be sure to share details on those meals soon! However, if you don’t want to leave the Lodge, you don’t have to!

We stayed in an ocean front king suite and it was heavenly! The room was extremely spacious by most any hotel standard.

The bathroom was also plenty big for our family of four. Can you even believe this shower and tub?!

The doors in both the room and bathroom slid almost fully open to sweeping views of nothing but sky and sea. We didn’t spend a minute in the room without the doors open.

The Florida Keys were not our original spring break plan, since we have been to Florida so many times. Looking back. we couldn’t have been more thrilled with this stay!!

I had a few questions on social media about getting to Cheeca. We flew into Miami and rented a car for the week. It was about 1.5 hours from MIA to Cheeca in traffic during this peak spring break week and over Easter weekend. From here, we continued on to Key West which was another 2 hours in traffic.

I’m happy to answer any questions you have about Cheeca Lodge, or provide a quote for your stay when I return to the office!

  1. We went to Hawks Cay (On Duck Key) in late February and loved it. This resort looks even better!! Can’t wait to hear about your time in Key West. We went for a day trip, without transportation, and we were a little overwhelmed by it. Still fun, though!!
