Back to School {Mom’s Fun Friday}

When the kids are away, the moms will play! With the kids back to school and a lovely pool that I’ve barely used in the backyard, I hosted the neighborhood moms for a fun Friday. We talked, sunned, floated and enjoyed lunch together before the littlest ones in the group were needing to be picked up at the bus stop.

I set lunch up on the porch and went with an easy menu of chicken salad over greens or on a croissant, cheese straws, fruit and my favorite bakery sweets.

I used the buffet table for drinks, including prosecco, rose, water and bubbly water.

I monogrammed tumblers to use at our lunch and for the ladies to take home as a little party favor.

I adore this ice bucket mold. I’ve had it for a long time but just started using it again last fall when I discovered it hiding in the back of a cabinet. For this ice bucket, I used extra greenery from the flower arrangements. It worked beautifully since they were long stems and didn’t all float to the top.

For a welcome cocktail, I served outshine popsicles in a glass of prosecco. It’s so yummy, summery and easy!

We swam for a while and it felt wonderful to have my friends gathered poolside, just as I’d imagined. <3 The boys have made great use of the pool but it was finally my turn!

In order for the ladies to make it home to pick up kids, we eventually dried off and sat down to lunch.

Even though it was a hot August day, I thought dining in the sun gathered around a table would be lovely. And it was! I set the table with a fern print tablecloth I got in the spring. I arranged the flowers from a few bunches at Trader Joe’s in a soup tureen. The melamine plates were a gift from my family last year (still current at Ballard Designs). The napkins are old from World Market.

  1. Amanda,
    You are definitely the hostess with the most-ess! Beautiful tablescape, delicious food and drinks all surrounded by that awesome pool. Your neighborhood lady friends are so lucky and I know they enjoyed the day.

  2. Amanda! What a special way to bless your friends. I love your ideas.
    My family gave me plates last year for my birthday during the pandemic. I never thought how much I would appreciate something so simple. It was a great gift to remind me of God’s blessings regardless of circumstances.

  3. This looks like it was a delightful afternoon! How blessed your friends are to be included in these celebrations of everyday moments!
