Donald’s Dining Safari at Tusker House Restaurant in Animal Kingdom

It’s been four long years since we had a meal at Tusker House and boy was it good to be back! I absolutely love the variety of dining options in Animal Kingdom.  After Epcot, it is my very favorite park for eating.  After this visit, it not only jumps back into my number one slot for table service in Animal Kingdom, but it wins number two for overall character dining (only after Topolino’s Terrace breakfast).

Tucked back in Harambe Village, I love the atmosphere inside.  We also enjoyed some of the best service in a restaurant I can recall in recent memory!

The plentiful family-style menu offers favorites for breakfast, lunch and dinner. For breakfast, munch on favorites like Safari Bread, Mickey and Simba Waffles, and Durban Chicken and Egg Curry with Jasmine Rice. Lunch and dinner offerings include Moroccan Spiced Beef, Berber Marinated Pork, Spit Roasted Herb Chicken, and Cape Malay Green Curry Shrimp. We dined at an early lunch time and everything we had was AMAZING! I had four teen boys in tow, and can I just say how many plates of food we went through. It was staggering!

While you dine, Donald Duck and friends—suited up and ready for their next safari adventure— travel throughout the dining rooms celebrating their latest expedition. Aren’t they the cutest?!

Our waiter made a point to come by and get everyone in the shot! The boys were eating this up. Teenagers are not too old to enjoy a little Disney magic.

While characters are not signing autographs, you do get a keepsake card for your memory book. I know that not being able to hug Mickey and get a signature can seem like a bummer but, from a parent’s perspective, character dining is 1,000% more enjoyable that it was previously. Every time I went to put a bite of food in my mouth I had to stop to turn to autograph pages, get pens ready, wipe mouths, etc. Having them dance and spontaneously pop by your table is easy. And the kids don’t know any different! :-)

Now, back to my four teenagers :-). I talked about this on Instagram while traveling, but I don’t think we covered it here. As part of John’s 16th birthday celebration, he brought his two besties to Disney for fall break. They had an AMAZING time! We started each day together as a group of 6 and usually fed them a nice lunch. They hit the pool at Grand Floridian for a couple of hours in the hot afternoons and then were off on their own for the evening. They made their own dinner reservations, park hopped, and even caught the bus to Disney Springs one night. At 16, it was the perfect place for them to have both fun and freedom. It was such a tremendous pleasure for Honey and I to be able to host them!

We also enjoyed a memorable safari. The kids were quite impressed! The animals were up and active, and a number of them came right up to our vehicle!

Stay tuned for more fall break fun. I only have about 1 million photos to share. :-)
